Palacete Chafariz D'El Rei

I booked one night as a gift for my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. From the very first phone call until the moment they left the day after everything was absolutely amazing. Staff was incredible, the room (Lola Suite) was speechless, the breakfast is inspiringly delicious and the Halls / garden breathtaking. Make no mistakes: if everyone who has stayed there (and many others who haven't written here) has loved the experience it's because this P(a)lace is undeniably superb! Just give it a few more months and it'll get to N.º1...

Room Tip: Lola Suite is superb and with a view over Tagus river.

In one word Amazing. The hotel is perfectly located in the medieval area Alfama, overlooking the Tejo river. Fado bars, the Castle, nice terraces, shops, the famous 28 tram, all at walking distance.
The little palace is beautifully decorated with antiques and vintage furniture, with a great eye for detail. The suites are very spacious and very comfortable. We stayed in the Amaya suite which had a huge bathroom, a gigantic shower, a terrace with a river view and a seperate seating area.
The breakfast rooms are wonderfull, and the breakfast is to die for.
The staff is very helpfull and made our stay unforgettable.
Lisbon is a great city and Palacete Chafariz del Rei is the highlight of the city. A Must Stay.

You know your stay here is going to be magical at the moment you enter the front door.

We arrived VERY early but were greeted with a smile and offered a coffee. The owner took our luggage and offered some first ideas of things to do and offered to make arrangements for our diner.

The room we chose was the smallest one available but it was huge so I can’t imagine the other ones … Beds were very comfortable. Both the room and bathroom were perfectly clean the whole time we stayed there.

Every evening Maria would ask if we had something planned for the following day and every morning, after an exquisite breakfast, she would have maps, tips and a list of less touristic places to visit printed out for us.

Quite frankly after our stay we discussed how we had never seen a staff so friendly & smiling, always there when you needed something but never in your way!

The only downside of this place is that it is so nice that you find yourself having a drink in the library or wandering the hotel, when really you should be visiting Lisbon :-)

Room Tip: We had the smallest room and it was huge so any room should do!

Wonderful hotel - the owners insist you treat it as your home - if only! Tucked away in old town Alfama, it is a real gem - fantastically restored and full of interesting detail. Thank you!

Staying at Palacete was a hi-light of our five day stay in Lisbon. The surroundings were beautiful, thoughtful and evocative, and a pleaure to return to at the end of the day. Breakfasts were delightful. The location was ideal. Most of all, the staff members were warm, friendly and helpful. We suggested better reading lights for our room, but other than that it was perfect!

I highly recommend this place to all lovers of architecture, style and design, boutique hotels and high level service.

Check in advance where the entrance is to avoid searching it with your luggage.
The staff is friendly and immedediately makes you feel like an old friend. The magnificent palace consists of 6 very individual guest rooms, 2 living rooms and 2 breakfast rooms, an impressive entry, a terrace and even 1 small chapel. we stayed in room "Lola" wich is very historic and just amazing and I loved the bathroom. Check te pictures on the website to find out which room suits you best.
Breakfast is very good and you can enjoy a drink in the lounge after dinner. The staff, including the owner, are always around if you need them, but thei`re well hidden ;-), so you feel very private. Still it`s so interesting to hear about the history of the house or the renovation works. You can feel how proud they are about the house.
Bring along something warm to wear if you come in spring as it can still be quite cool in the evening.
For me it was so wonderful, I hardly didn`t want to get out to see Lisbon (which is a very beautiful city, too)!

After traveling to one new country a month throughout Europe for the past year, this was one of the most beautiful hotels we've had the pleasure of staying. What seemed like a forgotten exterior facade revealed a beautiful restored palace inside with modern touches.

Some of the details which made this stay so memorable were Rui, one of the owners, who was very welcoming and helpful but not overbearing, turndown service where our rooms were tidied and the towel warmer was switched on, the spacious rooms with amazing bathrooms, and the private use of the social rooms like the library and garden patio.

The breakfast was delicious with fresh pastries, yoghurt parfaits, eggs and bacon served anytime after 8:30am. We're late risers, so we typically don't have breakfast at other hotels because of the 10am cutoff, but because there are only 6 rooms, Rui and his staff serve breakfast anytime you are ready in a lovely sun-filled dining room adjacent to the garden terrace where you can have tea and coffee afterwards.

Everything was so enjoyable, we had to motivate ourselves to leave and explore the rest of the city!

Tip: The hotel is hard to find at first, but if you have the cab driver call the hotel upon arrival someone will come down to meet you and show you inside. We stayed in the mini-suite, which had two beds made into a large king-size. This was okay for one night, but I would choose another room in the future with one continuous bed.
