Very nice and friendly staff, very clean room (like a 5-star hotel) nicely decorated, good amenities, wonderful experience of a calm and complete breakfast...

The last time we enjoyed this quality of service, we were guests of an ambassador. While enjoying drinks before dinner, we chatted with the ubiquitous Rui, the owner, in the beautifully appointed library. He thoughtfully queued up Frank Sinatra to add to the full sensory experience of the accommodations, and it felt as if we were staying with a favorite aunt in old Lisbon. We booked late and were lodged in a "small" suite; as rooms became available, Rui moved us to a suite facing the sea that could be conservatively described as palatial, particularly given the size of most rooms in Europe. This charming home turned high end hotel is quite simply a gem. The only improvement would be adding a Paris location.

Room Tip: Book early.

Just got back from 4 nights at the Palacete Chafariz D'El Rei and what a wonderful place it is. We had the smallest room, Lucia Comfort, but it was huge so the other rooms must be absolutely massive. The huge walk in power shower was amazing and air con/heating that you could control yourself so you never got too hot or too cold as you do in some hotels. My husband was especially impressed with the free wi-fi in the room but there's also a computer room for guests to use if you want to, just an extra little touch that makes the difference.

The building itself is very impressive and every room has been restored beautifully. One highlight is that you could have breakfast anytime you wanted after 8:30am so none of that rushing to get downstairs before they stop serving breakfast at 9am, what luxury. Breakfast itself was delicious, fruit salad, or fruit and yoghurt every morning then a selection of breads with lovely scrambled eggs and mini pastries and croissants to finish off, it certainly set you up for the day.

The owners and other staff were very friendly and helpful but not at all overbearing. Anyone who goes to Lisbon should stay here, the hotel is first class and the location is ideal for exploring the whole of Lisbon.

I travel a lot for work and pleasure... Probably do 80 hotel nights per year. This might be my favorite so far. It is a beautifully restored mansion on the edge of the old neighborhood... The rooms are incredible. The service is perfect, because it's by a highly engaged owner. The design is a perfect mix of tasteful modern amenities with authentically restored old world charm... It's a private home and while you're here you can have your run of the house... The living rooms, etc. are just for the guests. Free wifi, the only reasonably priced minibar in hotel history, etc, make it a wonderful romantic place to stay at a reasonable price.

It is not, however, in the heart of things... You must take a short walk. A small price to pay for perfect.

What a wonderful place to stay. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel like we were living in a grand version of our own home. This mansion is really quite exquisite. The location is fantastic, Alfama is a great base to explore Lisbon and close to trains, the famous No26 tram, downtown. Lots of great restaurants and fado around. Went to the local flea market too - a great find. Rui is a great host and Maria was so helpful. Can't rate this place too highly.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Amaya suite, what luxury! Fantastic balcony overlooking the river. Our second honeymoo...

We had an extremly nice and comfortable time during our three nights stay in Palacette in the beginning of January 2012. As expierienced traveler I highly appreciate this unique hotell.
The building and it's interiors is restored by the owners in stylish and elegant way. The atmosphere is elegant and home like . If you want to feel luxurious and home like, - stay there. Your room was never cleaned before in that way. Start a day with fantastic viev over te river and delicious breakfast. This is almost an advertising, but I really highly recomend this hotell. Just call them before arriving to get description how to find the door.

I would like to recommend Palacete Chafariz d`el Rei in Lisbon. Located in oldest part of Lisbon - Alfama. This renowned old palace offers superb service and a kind of magic :-)

Room Tip: Take an "Amaya" room.It has a balcony with a view for the river.
