I visited Lisbon as part of a Royal Caribbean cruise in November 2012 and booked the "Alfama Core by Segway" tour as a shore excursion. My girlfriend and I were part of a group of 8 who were collected at the port by Peter and taken to a central square where we received Segway training. My girlfriend and I (you may remember us!) were very experienced on Segways so were very quick on the uptake and were given some free time by Peter (and his hilarious assistant, I forget his name,) to explore the square. (As the other members of the group received training.)
The interesting part was yet to come.....we were taken (on our Segways,) through the oldest part of Lisbon. The streets were hilly, uneven and broken, but our Segways made light work of this and were a great alternative to walking!! Peter and his assistant pointed out some sights along the way and guided us through the maze of streets, through traffic (slow moving) and through a crowded market! It was the most fun I have ever had on a Segway.
Unfortunately. toward the end of the tour, it started to rain. This made things a little slippery. We made our way back to the tour office where Peter was happy to engage in conversation and give us advice about what to do for the rest of the day. We returned to the ship, (transport was provided.)
All in all, this was the best Segway experience I have ever taken part in. It was the longest and best value for money tour I have ever had the pleasure of taking. The only advice I would have for somebody taking such a tour, is that you must be fairly able bodied and willing to accept the risk that you may fall off the Segway. (It can be done!)
Thanks again Peter.
