There is no doubting that Club de Fado does attract the tourists of Lisbon, but it also attracts the locals too. When we were there we met a local music teacher who said that he always brought friends of his to Club de Fado to experience quality Fado music. He told us that we were really experiencing the professionals. And Im sure that we were. We really, really enjoyed our night there. The staff are friendly, professional and unpretencious. At various times throughout the evening, a red light lights goes up and the rest of the lights go down ... and then Mario P (fantastic Portugese guitar player and owner) and various other beautiful friends come and sing fado in the middle of the restaurant. Yes, the prices are expensive for lisbon, but the food is good quality. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Mario - who was a really nice chap... after Club de Fado we went to the Brazilian bar directly opposite and danced the night away with 3 euro caiprenhias! Nice... Go there ... its a great experience. If you dont want to pay the money for the meal - the waiter told us that we could go another night - only later in the evening - 11pm onwards and sit and have a drink and listen to the fado - excellent

it was a quite good dinner and good service, but i think it's not worth de price.
tha fado show was nice, but too much noise from all the people...
the waiter, when we went to pay, asked us to charge the price with the tip..and this really embarassed us!!
we think that such a famous place shouldn't ASK for a tip...what a disappointment!

Having spent ages researching a good place to see fado in Lisbon I was really disappointed when Mesa de Frades cancelled on the day. Apparently they're closed all May despite confirming my reservation twice by email...

So we were recommended to go to Club de Fado. We thought about leaving as we sat at our table crammed in with other tourists but decided to give it a go. I wish we hadn't - the food was ridiculously expensive - 18 euros for 5 prawns - and awful. The bill came to over 150 euros for two courses and a bottle of wine for two. We had eaten eight courses of fantastic food at 100 Manheiras the night before, for less! Gutted!

Fado is not worth this! Don't go!

Food & Prices: make no mistake, this is going to be much more expensive than your typical Lisbon restuarant, but is expected given performance is involved and this is a toursity thing. Food quality is good though, somewhat adjust for the prices they are charging

Performance: Very nice. I don't know much about Fado but do appreciate venue pays a lot of respect to the performers. No food is served, no waiters walk around when performance happens (~every 30 minutes starting 9:30pm)

Overall I would recommend it as worth a visit

We had been advised to try a Fado restaurant. Fado is the local music style, an emotional blues/jazz style. This restaurant got generally good reviews, and is owned by Mario Pachaco, who plays guitar/mandolin to accompany the singers (other accompaniment being guitar and double bass). If you ever wondered what had happened to Captain Peacock out of "Are you being served", he appears to own a Fado club in Lisbon.

Food was excellent, service very good, although of the slightly over-attentive "ooh, you've had a sip of wine, I'd better top up your glass" kind. Pretty expensive, but for your money you get pretty continuous entertainment. Just a slight feeling that the performers and the patrons take themselves just a little too seriously, but definitely a place I'd recommend.
