This has got the award for the number 1 hostel in the world off Hostelworld.com and after staying there, there is NO doubting. Everything is perfect. The Owners greet you like old friends and carry your bags up the stairs. The location is smack bang in the middle of the main street in the old town. The beds are huge and comfy as. There's free net and the layout is a cool designer lounge feel. The make you eggs in the morning and there's a bar that works on an honesty system (although the owners are so cool and young you would feel terrible not to pay). They organise activities every night like wine tasting, tapas nights and Pub crawls and they are all worth it and cheap. Even if you are not planning to stay in Lisbon long, YOU WILL NOT WANT TO LEAVE.
AWESOME HOSTEL!!

Let me start off by saying I have stayed in dozens of hostels, none of which can even begin to compare to The Traveller's House in Lisbon. Ideally located in historic Lisbon and just an easy tram ride away from the airport, it is the perfect place to stay.

The staff is wonderful and so helpful. My boyfriend and I only had 2 nights in Lisbon so they wrote up a list of must-see things, told us how to get there, where to walk around, etc. Wanting a more authentic Portugal experience, the staff recommended local, hole in the wall restaurants and pubs for good food and non-touristy Fado music. You can tell how proud they are of their city and rightfully so.

The hostel itself is extremely clean- and this comes from someone who normally brings their own pillow, blanket, and towels. The whole vibe is very home-y and comfortable with overstuffed chairs, nice couches, nice meal area, computers (free!), community kitchen, clean bathrooms. In the morning, the staff actually cooks you breakfast! If you are lucky enough to get a private room as we did our second night, you have an entire floor, bathroom, shower, kitchen, living room (with tv and dvd) to share with just a couple other single rooms on the top floor, complete with an amazing view. But, with the friendly atmosphere, you may not want to take advantage of it and, instead, may opt to go on an evening group activity. We joined in on movie night- something I have never wanted to do in any other hostel.

We are already planning on returning next year and will definitely stay in Traveller's House again. Our next trip, we will stay much longer and will take advantage of the tours and day trips the hostel organizes and operates.

Ten months traveling, this is the best hostel yet. Fantastic facilities which made us feel right at home including light/airy dorm room, clean bathrooms, kitchen (with a lady who makes eggs in the morning!), dining room, internet room, TV room, common area, wi-fi, nightly events...

One more thing - the hostel was great as it was but what made it fantastic was the kind and friendly staff.

After staying in 98 different places, this is the first one to get 5 stars from me...
If you go to Lisbon, definitely check out Traveller's House!

This hostel has everything you want in a hostel: extremly friendly staff (all of them remembered my name, even though the hostel was full!), always helpful and has always time for a little chat. Everything was very clean and I really loved the little details: smalll"boxes" on the beds to put little things in it during the night (like water, key, mobile phone, etc.), lockers incl. safe under the bed where you can put in even your whole backpack, water/softdrinks/beer for only 1€, good breakfast (eggs, toast, bred and cereals), coffe and tea 24/7, etc. They do special themes every night like happy hour and bar crawling, wine tasting, food-evenings (chicken piri-piri with sangria, etc.), movie nights, etc. And they have a very nice, organised tour to sintra with a very funny and helpful driver/guide (forgot his name). I had the feeling that even all the guests were more friendly than in other guesthouses. No problem to find somebody for activities, but also not a problem if you want to stay by yourself. If you want to party then this hostel is great, but if you don´t want to party then this hostel is also great! Go there! You will love it!

By far the best experience I have ever had at a hostel. The staff was warm and truly excited about Lisbon and even gave us a map with personal recommendations on where to go and even how to get there. The location is excellent and right in the middle of the historic area of Lisbon in the Baixa district. In the evenings the staff organizes different activities and when we were there, there was a night with traditional Portuguese food, a bar crawl and a movie night with free popcorn.

In the morning there is staff available to make toast and eggs for the guests as well as cereal for those who want it. All of the rooms were very clean and the atmosphere was friendly. They also offer three computers for using the internet (which were free) as well as complementary towels for those who need them. If you wanted water (or even beer) you could have a bottle for one euro and the water was a 1.5 liter bottle. I cannot recommend this hostel enough, and it books very quickly.
