We stayed in a private room with private ensuite and were very happy with our choice. The staff were very helpful and the location was excellent, close to the shopping area, Alfama, barrio alto and the water. The atmosphere was great. There was an activity on each night we were there which made it easy to meet other people. We stayed for three nights but wished we could have extended our stay. Would definitely recommend this hostel.

We stayed here as a couple for 4 nights in September '13 and really enjoyed our stay, and loved the city of Lisbon. We were in a private "budget" double room (ensuite bathroom) on the top floor, which was a bit of a hike to get to with bags (no elevator). I think because we got the "budget" private room, it was extremely basic, all white with dark floors, but it was very clean and new-feeling, although small with no desk or chairs. The common area downstairs was always slightly abuzz with happy (mostly quite young) guests, and breakfast every morning was scrambled eggs or crepe pancakes, with toast and good coffee. This warm included breakfast was a nice change from other poor included breakfasts we had experienced in Europe. *Important* highlight is that we took one of the hostel's day trips to Sintra which at 25 euro/person was an unbelievable value (private van drives the small group to every sight, there and back), well-planned, and a GORGEOUS day trip. Do it! We found the employee João to be especially friendly and had great tips (maybe he was a manager or owner?). Overall, Travellers House is in a fantastic, central location, is clean, and has a chill, friendly, modern atmosphere. I would go back, although Lisbon has such a rich design hostel culture I would also be curious to see some of the other top spots.
FYI, we had some of the best meals of our Europe trip in Lisbon, and top spots to go to include:
- Taberna da Rua das Flores (amazing cozy, ambient dinner)
- Uma (unassuming old school spot with the best seafood rice in Lisbon)
- Cantinho do Avillez (delicious, thoughtful meal and service from start to finish)

This is the best hostel i have ever stayed in. Felt very safe and welcomed. Staff were so friendly & helpful. Special thanks to the ladies who freshly cooked breakfast each day and cleaned the hostel from top to bottom.Rooms were extremely clean & comfortable, showers always hot, Themed nights each evening such as Portuguese Wine tasting, Chorizo and cheese, night tours. A great way to meet the other "inmates" if you choose to do so. Nice chill out areas if you just want to lounge. Great location.....and the list goes on. Special thanks to Amy, Alex, Joao and Philip. I will definitely stay here again. Thanks to all the staff who made my stay so enjoyable :)

I returned to Travellers House for the second time, and all the good things stayed the same: atmosphere, helpful staff, daily activities, lovely breakfast. I found the front room too noisy, so if you have a light sleep ask for a room in the rear.
Considering The fact that the price for a basic (yet very nicely designed) double room is not cheap, I would expect a TV in the room and assorted shower soaps etc., if the price is the same as in a hotel.
If you're looking for a warm welcome to Lisbon, this is the place for you.

The location is probably the best in town, it's in the heart of the city centre, not far from all you'll want to visit. As I arrived there I was impressed by the common area/kitchen and the kindness of the staff. There's a living room with sofas, a TV room and a small room with three mac book pros you can take avantage of. And you can also have an iPad. Wow. The breakfast is something different from any other hostel experience as you're going to eat fresh omelette or pancakes cooked by three women who works for the hostel! The room: my 4 bed dorm was very small and it had no table, chairs or whatever to put your things on while packing/unpacking etc. A small detail maybe for some people, but to me it was a bit disappointing. The bathroom were clean but again a bit small, the number of showers per ground is a bit inadequate at least in August when the house is fully booked.
So only small details which however are of great importance when traveling need to be improved, but apart from that, expect to stay in a great place.
