“Special hostel in the centre of Lisbon”

Ana and Leo had just taken over the place and they hey are very friendly and welcoming.
The hostel is nicely located on top of the hill next to a panoramic view. The place has a lot of character with old tiles in the living room,an old well where you can smoke.the place is spic and span indeed.
And if you need to know where to go out just ask them and they will let you know.
Highly recommended!!!

Only a few meters from one of the best view points over Lisbon.
There are many shops, supermarkets, coffe shops, bars and typical restaurants around.
The staff are really friendly and help to make sure you get the most out of lisbon.
Computer with internet, wifi, breakfast and tablefootball are free :)
Great atmosphere, make us feel like home.

Thank you for everything.

Johnny's Place was a positive surprise. Having booked randomly the night before, we didn't quite know what to expect. We arrived at night, greeted by the manager who gave us a tour of the place. The hostel is quite big, with several common rooms (Narguileh area, library, table football) and a kitchen with all amenities.

Breakfast is included in the otherwise cheap rate, but you have to prepare it yourself. 50 meters from the Hostel there is a viewpoint with a fabulous view of Lisboa. The neighbourhood is not very touristy, rather genuine and ethnic, and the owner indicated a good place for us to go and listen to Fado. The famous tram line 28 passes through the area and is a good way to go downtown (which is otherwise a 15-minute walk downhill).

As for the room, it was big, well heated and featured an ensuite bathroom. All in all, we felt very well taken care of in this great place, that I'd definately recommend to any budget traveller looking to stay for a while in Lisboa.

New owner Pedro couldn't be more helpful ! He even came to "rescue" us after we had been lost in Lisbon for 2 hours!
Johnies place is a hostel with character galore, shared rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living and dining areas.
Located in the Graca district, a 2 min walk to the #28 tram (a must do in Lisbon). Mini-market and plenty of restaurants close by. Great look out point just up the road.

The only downside for us was the cleanliness (or lack of) at the hostel. Communal areas were dirty (bathrooms kept clean though), such as kitchen (sticky counters, dishes constantly in sink and drainer, food and crumbs on floors and counters). Tile floors in communal lounge/smoking area and kitchen were filthy. Eg - we walked around barefoot and had black feet after 10 mins. (Didn't do it twice!).

Beds are comfy bunk beds in rooms of 3, or 6. One 6 bed room has a private bath.

Once Pedro gets his "hostel legs" under him, this will be a great place to stay for the hostel crowd. Overall, a good experience for my kids who are hoping to travel in Europe when they are out of school.

Good luck Pedro!
