“Private room in the winter.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

Don´t ask for a private room in the winter.
No heater. It was so cold that it took ages to get warm under the blanket .
The private rooms are located in a different building but the main building is comfortable and the staff is very pleasant .

As soon as I entered Lisbon Poets Hostel, I felt like home. Friendly folks are welcoming you as you step in give you the typical walkthrough of the Hostel and the City.
Be nice with them and you'll probably experience the best possible stay in Lisbon.
Friendly, warm, close to most of the sights in Lisbon: You'll love it !
Alone or with friends, even couple, this place is for you ! Cook, order food, taste some local food thanks to their dinners or go for a little night tour with one of the hostess.
Wherever you come from, whatever you do:
You'll find something for you =)

A funky beautiful hostel in a central location, very clean, with very helpful and friendly staff. We were given a private suite, which was a lovely surprise for a pair of romantics and avid travellers in their late 50s. Highly recommended!

The place is right that in the heart of Lisbon. The location couldn't be better. I loved the way they set up the lounge room, where the guests can get together for chatting, internet using or play games.
The front desk staff are exceptional. The desk person who made our check in, Pedro, was nice and polite. He made us feel at home.

Lisbon Poets Hostel is a very cute place in the center of town, next to metro, shopping, sights etc. The ambience is youthful without being hostel-noisy. Staff very sweet and helpful. I stayed in a single room on the 4th floor, below the hostel itself, with shared bathroom and found both to be clean, with A/C and a fan. The breakfast is basic but adequate and you can store your own food in the fridge, as well as cook in the kitchen. The streets are a bit noisy at night, as bands are playing on the open squares. If you don't find the sounds of the city charming, I recommend a quieter place.
Overall, a gem in a central location for urbanists on a budget.

To make it short, I would say that the hostel is ok, but not such as nice as I had expected after reading the previous reviews. That is why I decided to write also one comment to nuance these overrated comments(to my point of view). This review is for the private rooms.
To start with the positive aspect: the location is absolutely great, perfectly central.
But, the place is quite loud, even when you close the windows.
For the price we would have expected that our bedroom would have been cleaned at least once during our 5 days trip. Bed linen was never exchanged, and floor never cleaned.
The towels were not included in the price. We had to rent them (2 euro each and each time you wish a fresh one...)
For the rest, it was ok. Breakfast was ok, we missed fresh bred (only packed milk rolls & toast).
There was no atmosphere, contrary to the descriptions. Of course, this depends on the people, but lets say that the staff did not help a lot to improve it.
The bedroom was the minimum expected for the price : a bed which did not fall apart.

In any case, Lisbon is an amazing city, we had a wonderful time and wish you a nice trip.

Without reservation I recommend this hostel! Awaken in the morning and stand at the windows which overlook the square where life is bustling and music is playing....Life Is Good!
Ideal location right on Rossio Square. Easy access to both metro and trams. The staff is friendly and ready to help with any requests for information or recommendations. I am a 64 year old woman travelling with a female friend and we felt VERY safe both in the hostel and in the area in which it is located.
I would stay here again the minute I am in Lisbon! We totally loved this experience. It was our first hostel stay ever.

Room Tip: We were in a room that accommodated 2. It was secure with its own lock and a keyed in-room locker...
