I lived in Lisbon for 2 years. I've been to almost all restaurants in town. From the Cheap trash in Mouraria to the Fancy ones in the Av. da Liberdade. Cantinho is far, I mean, far away the best food experience in Lisbon.
What to order (not in the same day, cause the dishes are always for 2)
1Pataniscas de Bacalhau com arroz de tomate (fried cod fish muffins with tomato rice)
2Gambas ao Alho (shrimp in moustard and garlic sauce)
Desert:
The chocolate cake.

ps: it's a very tiny place with a few tables and doesn't accept reservations. So if you wanna eat there, go with one or two more people I get there early!

On our last night in Lisbon we went up to Bairro Alto without any set plans for dinner. As this was a Friday night the restaurants and streets were a lot busier than the nights before. Wondering through the streets looking for a suitable restaurant for diner we passed Cantinho Do Bem Estar without really having a closer look at it. I just noticed, it was a tiny little place with nicely tiled walls and a cozy looking dining room. About 10 minutes later into our search we decided to return and have a closer look at the place. The elderly looking man outside trying to attract potential customers explained the menu to us without being too pushy and we decided to give it a try. The dining room is really tiny and they still manage to squeeze in about 20 people. So if you want some privacy, this place might not be for you. Our waiter brought us the menu explainging the parts of it, that were not translated into English or French. On this Portuguese only pages of the menu you will find today's specials, mostly fresh fish, which are too big for one person. The price on the menu is the price for two people sharing. To illustrate the choices the waiter came with a platter full of raw fish to our table. Some people might be put off by this sight, but we decided to try the grilled seabass for two, which the waiter had recommanded to us. A good choice as we were about to find out. The whole grilled fish served with salad and boiled potatoes simply tasted delicious. The housewine we drank with it, as well as the almond tart we had for dessert were very nice as well.
What we further liked about this place, was that most of the customers seemed to be either Portuguese or Brazilians with only a few none-Portuguese-speaking people such as ourselves. The price we payed for our dinner might not have been the cheapest we had in Lisbon, but very reasonable and certainly not more expensive than any other comparable restaurant in the city. All in all this dinner was the perfect ending to a wonderful trip and we would certainly come here again.

Went on a friends recommendation and glad we did. Tables packed together in what seems to be someone's living room but the food was wonderful and ample - bream and fishcakes both. A simple place with great atmosphere.

Good food and very friendly service. This tiny restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and it feels like you visited good friends. There are only about five tables so be prepared to wait in the high-season. Try the grilled or fried fish.

We waited about 20 minutes outside and we were delighted with the quaintness of this tiny restaurant, which as other reviewers have described, is like eating in someone's kitchen!

The 'speciality prawns with garlic' were absolutely delicious. My husband had grilled seabass, which had a lot of butter but tasted really fresh. I had the cod cakes, which were nice but I'd recommend going for the grilled fish. We also had a bottle-sized carafe of decent house wine for EUR6! All in all a great experience, everyone was extremely cheerful and the service was faultless.

Finally - this atmosphere may not be for everyone, but to review without even eating in the place seems pretty unfair.
