“Great experience !”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

A friend and I stayed at the Alfama Patio Hostel for 4 days. It was really amazing. People were absolutely nice, most of the receptionists were very helpful and friendly. Most of all, they all spoke very good English. Carolina whom we met everyday is an amazing woman, always gleeful. She helped us to schedule our days coherently, gave lots of tips and recommended typical lisboan addresses for dining. The fees were relatively cheap. We were in a mixed 6 beds dormitory and even though the room contained 3 bunk beds, it was very spacious and our dorm buddies were nice and easy- living. However, the hostels offers other kind of rooms but ours was perfectly fine for the 11€ per day we paid. Breakfast is also included as from 8 am. The hostel is very clean and hot water is available 24hr.
Concerning the neighbourhood, the hostel is ideally situated, not far from the airport and the main city centre. Its actually of walking distance from most Alfama attractions and Bairro Alto. Moreover, the tram and the bus stops are nearby. Even the train station is around a 30 minutes walk.
The hostel also organizes trips and dinners. These are very nice but expect to pay more than if you organised it yourself. Moreover, if ever you subscribe for any of these activities, I suggest you request extremely detailed information since they tend to be very vague about petty things which ends up in either you paying more or having to figure out how to go back to the hostel on your own.
Overall, it was a very good stay. I'll surely come back !

This has to be one of the most memorable hostel stays of mine! Cosy place. Well decorated everywhere ( read: made to make you feel home). The staff were also superb. Helped with my heavy bags and gave a lot of info about transport etc. I arrived early in the morning way before my check-in time but I was offered breakfast already! They do very good pancakes! Not just any other hostel breakfast with bread and jam and cereals! I miss the pancakes already!!

The staff is very welcoming and gives loads of advice on where to find the best restaurants and sites. In the morning, you get delicious pancakes for breakfast! The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, as is the hostel. They also have an amazing terrace with a small sea view. The hostel organises lots of events, tours and parties. I warmly recommend this hostel, one of the best I've ever stayed in!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Alfama on and off for our 2 weeks in Portugal and loved every minute. Fantastic location in the old part of Lisbon, great organized trips and special events (delicious food!!) Hostel is
clean and comfortable, lots of hot water. The staff is truly amazing, I cannot say enough about them! It's been almost a year since
our visit but we often think about it and would return to Lisbon anytime and stay at the Alfama Patio Hostel.

We had 7 great days in a lovely doubleroom, with frech Crêpes for breakfast every morning. Every evening something for dinner for some Little money if u want. And u can take Part on Tours to the beach, streetart, culture, pubs....
The reception is open for 24h and it was no Problem to arrive in the middle of the night. The personal is very friendly and familiar and they have allways Time to help u out.

Overall the best choice for a hostel in lisboa

Room Tip: Take the doubleroom with the view over the river!

I stayed at the Alfama hostel when I had a 36 hour layover in Lisbon, the staff were very friendly and informative, the rooms were well maintained and had a nice layout, and they were incredibly helpful for finding ways to experience the city during my short stay. The hostel was easy to get to and from the airport via the train and they also offered a reasonably priced taxi service, (dirt cheep compared to a taxi in Canada.)
