Delicious Portoguese food, perfectly cooked and prepared, I particulary enjoyed the octopus, good prices and seasonal menù. The staff is helpful and nice and the decor very personal and not at all fake, everithing feels authentic. The resturant is quite tiny so I guess you're bound to wait a while to get a table but if you book in advance there should be no such problem

This is a really good restaurant serving good Portuguese food served nicely and in a lovely atmosphere.
This is a world away from many of the other restaurants in the area where there are touts trying to entice you in – O Barrigas does not advertise itself unduly but we were welcomed in warmly and seated at a comfortable table. The restaurant was quite full despite being a cold Monday night in February.
Service was attentive and patient the wine was good and the cover nibbles (pate, sheep cheese, olive and bread) of a very good quality and served with port – really great as an appertiser. As is normal in Portugal you are charged for your appertiser nibbles.
Starters were generous and tasty, I really loved my octopus salad and my partner’s salad was also of the highest quality.
For mains we had Jewfish and rice and octopus and rice. Both were prepared as dishes in the single pot tradition rather than as separate ingredients combined for serving. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. We could not manage any dessert!
The cost was also very reasonable – not cheap but far from expensive and good value for the quality.
I would recommend you make the effort to seek this restaurant out – it is well worth it.

this restaurant looks perfect, cosy surroundings etc but food and service was so disappointing! we were seated and asked would we like an aperitif of local port, of course we said yes, we had a couple of sips and it wasn't to our taste, but thinking it was free anyway we didnt think about it until we got our bill which had charged us €4 each for this drink! we ate the bread and cheese that was offered on the table which totalled to over €10, scandalous really for some mediocre bread and cheese. then we ordered our main course of pork and steak which both came out without veg, garnish potatoes etc....just a little piece of meat on the plate! after waiting 10 minutes we asked could we get potatoes as they were mentioned on the menu and they brought us down "French Fries!" and then to add insult to injury they charged us for them!! our total bill was €58 for 2 people who did not have starters, shared some wine and a dessert. Also the staff lacked personality and barely spoke to us, i would not recommend this restaurant, Overated!!

After a few nights in Portugal and some spectacular food in fantastic atmospheres we wanted to check out the neighborhood of Bairro Alto in Lisbon. We're still ashamed of ourselves to have been tricked into such an awful tourist trap and not spotting it immediately as we walked in.

The waiter was seemingly friendly and immediately put some bread, olives and brie on the table. We ordered a bottle of wine, some prawns for a starter and a couple of dishes from today's specials.

The wine was bland and totally overpriced. The prawns had clearly been frozen and tasted as if they had been thawed days ago. Compared to the main course, they were, however, a culinary wonder. The main courses tasted horribly and were simply inedible.

Looking around we realized that other people around us had the same reaction. People were sitting there with almost full plates and looking around with a mix of confusion and disgust.

When we asked for the bill, we were to our surprise not only charged for the "food" we had ordered, also charged a hefty fee for the bread, olives and brie that was put on the table without we having asked for it. In some ironic sense, it made the visit complete and consistent -- there is absolutely nothing nice to be said about O Barrigas.
