“Worst meal ever! Stay away if vegetarian!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

We booked in for a group of 20 and prearranged a menu that included some non-meat and fish dishes as there were 2 vegetarians in the group. This was confirmed by email by the restaurant in advance. On arrival we were seated in 2 tables and within minutes we realised we were in the smoking area... If you don't want to eat surrounded by smoke or come out stinking of cigarettes then my first tip is to request a no-smoking table. The food arrived and we were presented with a mix of veg and shrimp spring rolls which were hot and tasty. From here it went rapidly downhill. The tofu soup had shrimp in it, but even if it didn't I still wouldn't have eaten it, gloopy and colorless none of my colleagues enjoyed it. The mains were then served. The food was warm when it arrived but the revolving stand on your table is not heated so the food quickly went cold. The were 2 options without meat or fish - a tasteless tofu broth and some sautéed vegetables. We were given a small bowl of steamed rice to accompany these dishes. The meat eaters faired better with a selection of meats including pork and duck, sticky chicken, shrimps and veg in a nest, shrimps in fried rice, shrimp noodles, plus more that I can't remember. No one was impressed with the food, the service was ok. I won't go here again and would recommend any vegetarians to go to any of the other number of good restaurants in Cascais if you want to eat. Absolutely rubbish!

“Are you joking?”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

This place should close! If this is is amongst the best Chinese in Portugal, I wonder what's the worst? My wife and I went there for lunch, ordered the so called szechuan fried sole. Nothing more than an over fried fish with a horrible sauce (szechuan ?), are you joking? Don't even go near this place.

“Upmarket Chinese”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

The Mandarim is on the outside of the casino facing onto the Jardim do Estoril park.
The menu has a wide choice from lobster @ 150euro to more standard mains @ 11euro. The setting is quite formal although I was in jeans as were a couple of other patrons.
We had a starter of 2 meats contonese style, followed by mains of sesame chicken with lemon sauce and duck with pineapple. One dessert of banana fritter and drinks of a half bottle of wine, 1 beer and a water. All came to 60euro.
Service was good if not great.
All told we had a very nice meal in what is the best chinese in the area, a little expensive but worth it.
