Fantastic location, very cheap, spotless (as you would expect from a hotel ran by the Dominican Sisters), and free parking. The restaurant serves honest, traditional portuguese food at low prices. Soup, salad, main course, dessert, water and house wine at 10€ per person. All this in a very attractive building.

At Euro 40 per night (twin) including breakfast this ex Dominican Convent is impossible to beat. It is a 5 minute walk from the Fatima Sanctuary, very clean, friendly and peaceful. Plenty of car parking (make sure you don't come on a major feastday though).

A taxi from the bus station costs around Euro 5 from memory (its too far to walk your suitcases and the cobbled footpaths are not suitable). If coming from Lisbon Express (Rede) bus is the only realistic weay to come apart from driving. Euro 20 return.

The breakfast isn't anything to write home about but good basic fare that will get you through the morning - and the coffee is hot and thick (hot milk available to boot). Mandarins and kiwifruit aplenty along with bread rolls, cereal and cold meat/cheese slices. You can casually go in for lunch or dinner at Euro 10 per person. Huge meals and the salads are terrific. A bottle of wine is included.

There is a laundrette just around the corner (Rua Nossa Senhora das Vitorias just past Rua da Mercado on the southern side of the street) - 8kg washed and dried plus powder will set you back just Euro 5 or so.

For an afternoon coffee/chocolate drink treat with nice pastries the nearby Paris Cafe (you will see it on the way to the laundrette) is great. The coffee was very nice especially and the host charming.

For local attractions you must go to:
(1) The Museu de Cera (Wax Museum)
(2) The light and peace exhibition (South Side of the Sanctuary, white building)
(3) Walk down the Via Sacra to the village where the seers lived (2 hrs there and back with time at the museum and the preserved houses). Lovely paved walk thru the olive groves.
(4) Bus trip (30 mins) to Batahla where there is an impressive, large 14th Century Church and monastery.
(On normal weekdays the bus leaves at 9.15-9.30am and returns at 12.00pm. Don't miss it as the next bus isn't until 6pm!) Don't go on weekends as there is no midday retun bus. Watch out for feastdays when timetable changes.
(5) The Caves - we didn't make it this time. But they come highly recommended.

The only possible negative is the walls may be a bit thin - though most visitors are quiet so this should not be a real problem.

In winter if there are few guests the central heating but not be on for long - just ask for a portable heater. Great for drying hand-washed clothes!

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night, pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel
great location, only downside we were in room 160 which was directly above the
dining area so from 5.30am it was really noisy with staff putting out the breakfast etc
and 6.30 onwards guests walking past our door and down the stairwell very very noisy!!!
If we were to revisit we'd ask for a room at the opposite end of the hotel!
