Knockout Estrema and Duran dishes. We had the veal roasted in a wood oven and the prawn & bread stew, Simple and flavoursome. This is what Portuguese fare is all about. The patrons at the eatery were cheerful

We went to Tia Alice restaurant because we had read good reviews. I believe that either they have changed management or management has gone down hill!
The food was mediocre, service was slow and a bit snobby and the prices were too high (the cheapest dish was 19 euros). The atmosphere wasn't very pleasant and the quantity of food was not adequate.
There were 4 of us and no one was impressed in the least. Considering what we read and the prices we expected more. It was a waste of our time and money.

We went to Tia Alice because it was too late to drive to the other restaurant where we were planning to go. Our driver suggested it and we were afraid that it was a tourist/pilgrim trap. On the contrary, most customers were Portuguese and -most important- the food was excellent. The best bacalhau of this trip. Very kind and caring staff. We liked it.

Since this restaurant had been strongly recommended by many Portuguese friends, my wife and I arrived at Tia Alice expecting a remarkable dining experience. However, despite the atttentive service, the food was below the usually (high) standards of smart restaurants in Portugal. We both had "bacalhau gratinado", following the waitress' strong recommendations. Bad choice. Supposedly enough for two (as stated in the menu), the portion was actually small, barely suficient for a couple. Worse, the food was simply uninspired, even mediocre. One can get much better bacalhau all over the country, for half the (rather expensive) price we've been charged.
A big disappointment.
