My wife and I together with a tour group stayed at the catolica Hotel last November (2012) for 3 nights. Our room was small but adequate. Bathroom was well equipped with heated towel rack, Bidet etc. Heating in the room was working well. Not a Luxurious room, but as I said quite adequate and comfortable, especially this being a place of pilgrimage. One thing we missed was the lack of Tea/coffee making facility in the room.
Location is very convenient. 5 minutes walk to the sanctuary. There are some eating places close by, but cannot comment as we had all our meals at the hotel, which was included in out tour price. Also there is a pharmacy next door as well as many many shops selling religious articles.
Best of all is the staff, especially the staff at the restaurant. They were simply marvelous. Very obliging and friendly. The food was also very good and ample. I must also mention the superb coffee making machine they have in the restaurant for breakfast. It made very tasty cappuccino, expresso, latte etc.. and was in high demand with our group. I mention this because, though we stayed in 5 different hotels in various European cities and all of them had the coffee machine, but none could match the taste of this one, especially the cappuccino.
All in all Catolica is a very nice, comfortable and a friendy hotel. Only negative (if you can call it that) thing I can say is that the front facade of the hotel needed a bit of a painting.
If we ever return to Fatima will surely stay at the Catolica!
