“Great hotel for a great price.”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

A great hotel for a great price. It takes about 15 min downhill to the Congress center, so it is not for anyone who does not like to walk. But than again neither is Portugal.
The rooms are actually apartments. They are clean andvery big with a living room, kitchen, sleeping room, bathroom and big balcony. They are a bit old but still look very good.
A very quiet street
The hotel staff is nice and helpfull.
The internet works only in the lobby.
The breakfast is ok, but not a big variety of food.

We booked a 2-room apartment for a family of 4 with 2 teenage daughters. The apartment was ideal in more or less all aspects; plenty of space, well-appointed kitchen (lacking only a toaster!) and we had a good sea view from the upstairs bedroom balcony. Supermarket just a few minutes walk. An easy walk down to the station for a day in Lisbon, or to the promenade for a nice walk into Cascais in the evening. Bit of a hike back up the hill, but helps to burn off a few of the extra calories - taxis back are not expensive if you have had an exhausting day! Swimming pool nice, not very crowded and the hotel bar is nearby, serving whenever you want. Good beaches in Estoril and Cascais, although be careful of the sea - not as warm as you may think.

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view if you are booking a 2-bedroom apartment

Lovely room, very friendly staff and generous check-out time. Pool not too big but clean. Close to the beach (5min walk), but street parking is limited but safe. Pool towels cost € 1,oo and need a €10,oo refundable deposit.

The Clube do Lago is a threadbare hotel that is best avoided. We stayed for three nights during one of this summer's heat emergencies. To start favorably, the front desk staff was resolutely cheery, and did their best with what I suspect to be limited resources. It is indeed a long, sometimes nearly vertical walk to the train station, but people who can ambulate without assistance probably make the climb without much trouble. The kitchen--as has been noted by others--was haphazardly appointed, and when we asked for cutlery we were told that "we will think of something," but nothing ever arrived. We had abundant electrical outlets, but no lighting at all near the bed. Apparently, floor lamps are not in the budget, either.
On the second day, the hotel's monumental-looking air conditioner, which had never been very effective, failed entirely without the front desk having notifying us. We sweltered through two nights. Finally, late morning, as we were leaving for the day, they brought a room air conditioner, which was gone by the time we returned. Water, presumably from it, had sloshed onto one of the beds. The third night was acceptably cool.
Breakfast is skimpy and--carrying through the threadbare motif--attended by one very busy server. The fitness area, which opens at 10:30 (!!), is warm, dark and has machines that were old and in the case of the Stairmaster and one of the treadmills, broken.
A bright spot: the housekeepers were thorough and efficient. I'm certain it helped that the floors are tile and the room a large rectangle, but I have seldom had a cleaner hotel room. The fact that it was also warm and dark trumps the cleanliness, however.
All in all, we would have been much better off staying elsewhere.

very good service, very helpful staff especially after I had an accident resulting in a very painful torsion in my knee, spacy and clean studio/apartment rooms with nice furniture

nice locoation if you have a car, since going to the beach is fairly exhausting upon return; the hotel is situated up-hill; going to the beach no prob, but going back... using this hotel as base for going to Lisboa and all the other lcoations is ideal

If you have questions, how to get here?
If you are from Lisbon airport, take Subway to Cais du Sodre (take red line and get off at Almeda Station and take green line and get off at last station)-(€1.90) and take train to Cascais direction and stop at Monte Estril station (€2.15)-(make sure you check the schedule, some trains are not stopping at this station and leave every 20minutes), and it's about 10 minutes walking distance. For first timer, once you get off the train, pls ask people around for direction, it's easy to find, unless if you arrive in nite time, well ..it's a problem, it's quiet already. But if you are hesitate to do the steps, an easy way, take a shared van (€30 per person one way). (At this moment, 1Euro=USD0.67)

Honestly, people at the information booth at airport or train station, they are not helpful, and in the polite way to say, one will tell different than others, so get ready to grab maps, (you can have them at Tourist information desk at arrival side), and be your own guide, trust me, it's easy, what you only need is courage. There are 2 information desks at arrival hall, don't waste your time at Information Booth, go straight to front forward next to it, Tourist Information Booth ,you will see big sign, they will assist you in better manner so to say.

If you reserve a van, please make sure you book at least 72hours prior arrival or otherwise you won't see your name on placard at arrival hall to pick you and seriously none will care and get ready to have € to make several phone calls and another thing..., you can't present your transportation voucher, it's your bad luck, so no printer is not a good excuse this time.

And before I jump to hotel observation, one thing you must always remember, KEEP YOUR RECEIPT anywhere you spend your €€€ period. Bad things may happen unexpectedly and you have proof. OK, let's move on...

It's a beautiful town, it's nice little neighborhood (I assume this hotel location is still called Monte Estoril). Put it this way,if you wanna relax and think you don't wanna be crazy with all bustling in the city town, this is what you need, although Cascais is much better in surrounding since you will find eateries and things you need easier, and they are both romantic city and very clean, people are more lay back and more friendly. The beach is just right there too..., woohoo ...

Of course Not all hotels in the area cost you around USD100 per nite based on double/twin sharing, or over, which in my opinion, it's really really overpriced. If you are on the go person, ready for adventures and you just need room to sleep since you will be out anyway, just find a place that offers you a comfy room and bathroom with AC/Heater, that's all you need, don't waste your $$$, and it's way cheaper.

Our room is not ready when we arrive at hotel, it's not a huge hotel, so bellboys are not available but it's so relaxing you can feel right away from the surround ambiance. Beautiful pool that you see from lobby, it's really cute..., the place itself creates tranquility. If you room is not ready, you can opted to go to Spa on location , it's Thai Spa, it's reasonable price as well, from €25...(we are in Portugal not Asia, so please don't compare the price..lol).

When you book you room, please make sure you check what kind of room you choose and whether including breakfast or not, as well the WiFi.
Our room is so cute , Junior Suite, two singe beds that placed together, nice bathroom with tub, toilet, sink and bidet, a comfy sofa at living room, dine table, kitchen, both TV in bedroom and living room with blackout curtain, telephone and balcony that you can relax. It's no smoking property so smoking is permitted in designated area like outside the hotel.
Although hair dryer and liquid soaps are provided in the bathroom, you may want to grab yourself other stuff like your simple toiletries before you get here (such as shampoo, conditioner,toothpaste/brush, kind like that). And it's great light, not to bright or dark, perfect.

It's nice people that work here, friendly and helpful, like amazing Frederico and nice Suzanna, ask them what you need to know, they will try their best to assist you. Hey, not a lot of peeps like they are in this town, I can guarantee you that.

I love what I am offered here (my priority is the clean bathroom).
The only thing that I don't like is the bed, that's it, it's kind a firm and I'm not able to sleep comfortably but some people of course like it, it's just preference.
Other than that,I think the tub need to be shined or polished and the drainage need to be fixed, I don't like waters flow in my ankle tho.

You can relax yourself too when having breakfast, from toast, yogurt, beans(my favorite) scrambled eggs, fruits, salami, mini dogs, ham are there to try, from cappuccino ,chocolate, tea, it's adequate. I mean, good size for breakfast, nice staff makes your appetite even more enjoyable.

Kitchen: from microwave to oven, what you need is just right there, even the plates, glass, etc, and remember that there is cleaning fee for that if you use them.
Linen: the hotel will change it for you in every 2days or otherwise there is a fee.
So please make sure you read the fine line at whatever the website you try to purchase.
Hallway: it's dark, it's a saving energy kind a thing, there is flickering outside the lift or your room, so you won't have problem at all but at least now you know where to find because they don't tell ya.
Pool Towel: there is €1 fee to rent and €10 for deposit for a day, bring your beach towel if it's too much for ya.
Safety Box: inform concierge and there is a fee to use it.

Tips: from here you can enjoy history, take train and stop at Belem or take taxi to Cascais (€5) for dining experience and souvenirs shop, or take a cab (€5), enjoy wild nite at Casino Estoril (smoking permitted).

Overall:
It's LGBT Friendly.
I love what I see and experience, I have amazing stay in this property, great staff make your stay more enjoyable and that's for sure. I wish that this property has just standard kind a bed tho, not to soft nor firm. I don't feel cramp in the room which is great (spacious). Wood floor in bedroom and tile the rest of it. It's claimed as 4stars in Portugal, and in my opinion, in America, this is more like 3stars and in Asia is likely 2stars or guest house style, or Bed Breakfast type in South America.
Regardless what stars, again I love this place and emphasizing how nice the staff which is very important in tourist business to offer great customer service.
One thing I hope or expect that the hotel can lower the rate, because there are several choices around the area for same kind of quality or better and cheaper too, and also great location or landmark. Thank you for letting me and the family to experience at your property.

Room Tip: Ask concierge for what kind of room you will get, they are friendly and helpful.
