“A perfect retreat”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

I had a wonderful 9 days at Colina Flora over the new year period. The location is beautiful and incredibly handy for getting around, the rooms are lovely, breakfasts and dinners delicious and Aasta & James were fantastic hosts. The activities i took part in included walking, mountain biking, kayaking, art class, chi kung, yoga, massage and stress management classes. I met some great people along the way. Really can't praise the experience enough.

From the minute I came through the arrivals door at the Lisbon airport and saw James holding a sign with my name, until James dropped me off at the airport a week later...I had the most amazing week! James and Aasta are the perfect hosts at Quinta Colina Flora. The guest house is an oasis in rolling hills near the Sintra National Park. Each day began with a beautiful and bountiful breakfast including home made baked goods and granola that Aasta lovingly prepared. James was so helpful with sharing tips on hiking and sightseeing. He furnished maps and books of the area. My room was very comfortable, clean and well appointed, including a tea station with variety of teas, fresh fruit and cookies and a bottle of water each day. The grounds of Colina Flora were like a botanical garden with tables and chairs to eat a picnic lunch or enjoy a glass of wine in nature. A car is not necessary as there is a local bus that can take you to many local sights and also to Cascais, where you can pick up a train every 30 minutes into Lisbon. Don't miss the interesting Convento dos Capuchos "Cork Convent". It's just a 30 minute hike away. And

Quinta Colina Flora is one of those rare finds. Perfectly secluded in the hills near the gorgeous town of Sintra. It's easily accessible from Lisbon but far away enough that you feel any city is a million miles away. James, Aasta and Lucca were the most amazing hosts and could not have been more helpful. The breakfasts were superb and James was so incredibly helpful with directions and instructions of how to get around to local sites and were knd enough to pick us up from the beach after dinner as well.

We dearly hope to come back and see you again soon.
Best Wishes
Andrew and Ria

I visited the Colina flora this past October and never wanted to leave. The location is beautiful with views to the sea across a beautiful landscape. It is off the beaten track so you feel like you can really relax, but if you love adventure and exploring and exercise, you may not have time to relax. James will send you off on the greatest explorations and adventures all the way to the moment you finally must leave. The day starts with a delicious and full breakfast that Aasta specially prepares. You end up becoming a family with the other guests, although you do have the choice to eat at your own table. The rooms make you feel so at home and each one is unique. Aasta and James clearly love making this a great experience for their guests. I will definitely be returning!

We absolutely adored Colina Flora and cannot wait to return someday. Tucked away in the hills near Sintra, it is truly a magical oasis. The B&B was beautiful and cozy - it felt like a home away from home. James, Aasta and their little dog Lucca were wonderful hosts who went out of their way to make our stay happy and memorable. James mapped out wonderful walks through the countryside, complete with recommendations for tucked-away restaurants and off-the-beaten path sights. Aasta's homemade breakfasts were a highlight of the trip! Don't miss stunning Adraga Beach and Convento dos Capuchos - both walkable from the B&B.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Marigold room which had a beautiful private patio with a fireplace overlooking the...

Beautiful views, bright rooms and a warm welcome here from James, Aasta and Lucca. We enjoyed hikes to Monserrate and the Convento dos Capuchos (not to be missed!). Breakfasts with Aasta's homemade muffins and granola were exceptional. Plumbing was slightly quirky, but always functional. In all, a terrific place to stay with hosts who go above and beyond to make you comfortable!
