We stayed at Colina Flora for 8 days in September , weather was beautiful..
I would really recommend this guest house to someone who appreciates an easy going atmosphere , we found our stay a bit too short.. there is lots to do in the greater area and you will need time to enjoy..
I am a food lover , there is a beautiful beach close by , with a rustic seafood restaurant which we really enjoyed.
James and Aasta really make you feel at home and are very helpful and understanding. The area is best suited to people who like to walk, if you are elderly I would recommend renting a car as the area is quite hilly in general. That being said , James and Aasta run a shuttle service to the local village and beach which was greatly appreciated.

We will definitely visit Colina Flora again..

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'Rose room' and it was very private and peaceful

I spent a much needed break here for a week in August 2012, and it was simply perfect. The rooms are beautifully decorated, spacious, and have everything you need, including bath robes, slippers, a bottle of wine and a daily supply of mineral water and biscuits. The owners, Aastra and James, couldn't do enough to make my stay just perfect. They can collect you from the airport or nearby railway stations such as Cascais, they provide maps and detailed information to help you find your way around on foot or by bus, and they serve the best breakfasts and vegetarian dinners. They even gave me lifts to the beach and to local restaurants! The setting is beautiful - very quiet, in the hills, surrounded by trees, and not far from local villages, one of Portugal's most beautiful beaches, and an easy bus ride to the stunning historical town of Sintra. I also recommend spending a night or two at one or both ends of your holiday in Lisbon, as it's so close. I had a perfect week, and hope to return before long as there's still so much more to discover in the area and I doubt if I'd find a lovelier and more welcoming place to stay than Colina Flora. Thank you Aastra and James!

Room Tip: I spent 4 nights in Lily - lovely room with its own patio and a view across to the sea. Although I...

I have just returned from a very relaxing break at Colina Flora. It is a beautiful guest house set in the hills overlooking Sintra Natural Park. James and Aasta are wonderful hosts; carefully looking after everything you need. I really appreciated this as a solo traveller and was made to feel very welcome. The breakfasts are amazing!! Home-made muffins every day, fresh fruit, home-made granola; very yummy! We also enjoyed a beautiful home-made veggie meal made by Aasta which was delicious. Colina Flora has lots of space to relax; the pool is lovely, there is a beautiful garden and I had a little terrace where I could eat in the evenings, when I made my own meal in the guest kitchen which was well equipped. James was very kind to pick us up from the beach and from restaurants in the nearby village and I also booked an airport transfer back to Lisbon which made my journey very smooth. I would highly recommend this guest house; indeed the other reviews on this site speak for themselves!

We arrived home from a 4 night stay at the Quinta Colina Flora yesterday. Having read all the reviews before we went, we were expecting our stay to be special, but this place was that and much, much more. James met us from the airport, drove us via the coastal road to give us a sense of where we were, pointed out many places of interest and stopped at a couple of beautiful spots so that we could get out and take in the sights and smells. We were tired from an early morning start and hungry so Aasta suggested that James drive us to a local vegan organic restaurant where he joined us for a really delicious 3 course lunch, served by a lovely Peruvian woman (I'm sorry, I've forgotten your name!) and her young daughter. On the drive back through the village of Amocageme, James pointed out the route we would need to take to walk to the beach.

The next day was our 10th anniversary. We woke to find a bottle of bubbly on our terrace, with a "happy anniversay" card and a vase of flowers from their garden. After a fantastic breakfast (all previous reviews say it all about Aasta's wonderful breakfasts!!), James and Aasta gave us a lift to the village and, later that day James collected us from the beach in a borrowed car (his car has been pronounced dead that day!). We were taken back to our beautiful room, where a massage had been arranged for us both. After that, James drove us into Cascais, where Aasta had made a reservation for us at a Thai restaurant, which she had researched to ensure it was veggie friendly and highly rated. We then saw Ronan Keating playing at a free live open air concert in the town square! A completely unexpected and lovely end to a perfect day.

The views from Quinta Colina Flora are breathtaking. We didn't want to hire a car, so we walked the fairly long walk down the hills and through the village to the forest road that leads down to the beach of Praira da Adraga. It's a lovely walk and you can stop off for a drink in the village en route. The waves at the beach are high and strong, with many surfers. The sounds and smells are amazing. There is one fish restaurant at the beach where you will need to make a reservation if you want to eat at lunch time. Although it's not on the menu, they also do a lovely vegetarian dish.

The next day after breakfast we walked to Praira da Adraga. Again, James picked us up and we then enjoyed the lovely swimming pool at Quinta Colina Flora before having another delicious vegetarian meal at a local "shop", originally a wine warehouse, where they exhibit art and pottery. Later that night night we went to a concert of amazing eastern music at the same place.

Sunday was yet another fantastic breakfast, beach then a delicious evening vegetarian meal that Aasta cooked for us and 3 other guests. James served us at the large table in the garden and selected lovely music for us. The food and ambiance was just perfect.

You can take a bus to the historical town of Sintra or to Cascais, but in our short stay we didn't choose to do this. Next time we will...

Aasta and James are wonderful hosts. They made us feel like welcome friends, without imposing on our privacy. They brushed off our thanks, saying it was nothing. Their efforts to ensure that each guest has the perfect stay, goes way beyond any expectations. They provide so many extras, like bath robes, slippers, beach towels, beach umbrellas, mountain bikes, maps, bottled water, biscuits and fruit in the rooms, as well as a tea making facilities and a bottle of wine on arrival. There's also a communal self catering station, with a fridge, sink and cooking hobs, if you want to make your own food. They recycle and compost all they can and have a green ethos. They also have a gorgeous dog called Lucca!

Thank you so very much to Aasta, James and, of course, Lucca :o)

Room Tip: All rooms are beautifully decorated. Our's had an outside terrace with amazing views.

The reviews here say it all really.
This is a place to escape the blazing heat of the southern European summer or the chill of the northern winter. Ideal for walkers rather than families with small kids. A very beautiful part of the world that would reward repeated visits - the sort of region that you would grow to love. James & Aasta clearly love it and share their knowledge and enthusiasm. James is a mine of infallible information about walks, restaurants, beaches, sights, local history etc etc. You will quickly feel familiar with the place.
The hospitality from James, Aasta and Lucca is fantastic & the warm, unpretentious atmosphere is extremely relaxing and pleasant. It's a perfect balance between simplicity and comfort.

Room Tip: Marigold has stunning panoramic views.

There are many things that make Colina Flora a glorious place to stay. The outstanding accommodation and its grounds, for instance, which have been furnished with an eye for beauty and detail, and with care for the environment. The superb location - within walking distance of several authentically picturesque villages where 'just hanging out' comes naturally; and with Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais and some stunning beaches within easy travel distance. It's a paradise for walkers, and for many of the delightful local walks you don't even have to get into the car. On Saturdays and Sundays there is a wonderful fresh produce market nearby, and the nearest village has an excellent shop, with lots of fresh fruit and veg as well as organic products. Colina Flora has a glowing well-equiped kitchen for its guests, and good restaurants abound in the area. There is very little to wish for, and a lot to enjoy.

What makes Colina Flora particularly special, however, is the warm and generous hospitality of its owners, James and Aasta, who will (both literally and figuratively) go out of their way to make sure their guests have what they need. As stated in other reviews, breakfast is a feast. James will provide maps and detailed directions, walk along for a while if that might help, pick you up if you are stuck without a car. I dried a handwashed T-shirt on a chair outside; a bit later Aasta had quietly provided a drying rack. We never felt imposed upon, but we did feel genuinely looked after.

We were at Colina Flora for four days at the beginning of July, and the place was 'full' – but only in the sense that its small number of rooms were all occupied. It felt very quiet and peaceful, and offered us everything we'd hoped for.

One small piece of advice: when we were there the weather in the Sintra hills was considerably cooler than in the Algarve or even nearby Lisbon, particularly in the evenings. So bring something warm to wear when the sun goes down.

Room Tip: We stayed in 'Rose', which was lovely and spacious.

We had a very relaxing vacation at the Colina Flora. We thoroughly enjoyed the thoughtful touches such as fruit and tea service in the room and bottled water each day. The breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious and the prepared with care. James is a wealth of knowledge and is happy to provide advice about area attractions tailored to your needs and interests. All of his suggestions were right on for us! We stayed in the Camellia room, which was very clean and spacious with a gorgeous view.
Our only regret is that we did not have more time in Sintra to see everything. We were there four days but could have easily stayed a week.

Room Tip: Since the Camellia room is above two other rooms, it is probably the quietest.
