Eventually found the Sintra Sol apartments - what a surprise not very near Sintra.
Entrance is via checkpoint, and then reception is a small building on it's own. We decided that Stalag Sintra Sol might be a better name for it.
The apartments were clean but very basic, reminding us of a Butlins chalet. The pools are large and well maintained ...... and are open to the public. So you can imagine the joy of settling down to a spot of sunbathing on the balcony ( which overlooks the pool) and having a 100 + schoolchildren arrive at 10.00 am on a school trip, and not leave until 4.00 pm.
I am sure that Sintra Sol would be ideal for families with small children, as another reviewer put it, "kids loved that they were staying at a water park" . However two women over 40 could not quite feel the same delight.
The area around Sintra is stunning, and well worth a visit.
