Grande Real Villa Italia Hotel & Spa
Ranked #3 of 40 Hotels in Cascais
Certificate of Excellence

We have recently returned form our 3rd trip to Cascais and a stay at this hotel. Although it is a little expensive it is a real treat and true luxury. A 10 minute walk from the town itself the hotel is well positioned and in a quiet area. The rooms and bathrooms are very luxurious and the staff very helpful. One downside is the price of food and drink in the hotel but this is easily solved by visiting any of the nearby shops and restaurants and stocking up yourself! The breakfast is included and is one of the best you will come across. All in all we have had 3 great holidays here and will definitely be back.

We stayed for 7 nights at the Grande Real Villa Italia. The hotel interior is luxurious and 5 Star worthy whereever you look. The rooms are beautiful (we had a big room with a balcony with sunbeds and a view overlooking the pool and the Atlantic sea). The bathroom was fantastic - large, beautiful and very well equipped
Only 2 things that are not worth 5 stars is the fitness-facilities and the breakfast buffet. Since the breakfast buffet is an important thing for a 5 star hotel, I hope they get this fixed. Its not that it is a bad buffet, its just not fantastic (waiting time, scrambled eggs to wet, bacon not crunchy, pancakes that are not really pancakes but more like dough baked in the oven... Etc.).
But even though the breakfast is not that fantastic, the hotel is still very great. And as other people mentioned - the staff is extremely helpfull and serviceminded: very 5-star-like staff!!!

We were lucky to stay at the hotel in a period of time, that was not to crowded. There was other people, but still it hadn't turned in to "a resort" which it more or less did the last night we stayed. And for that purpose, the pool area is not big enough. Otherwise it is lovely.

We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to other people.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 days from the 8th of July. The overall impression is that this hotel lacks management and service, the place is overrated and not worth the expensive rooms and restaurants.

The first night after few hassles we got moved into a lower grade room for one night even though I explained that i did not mind paying more for a better room (their was no availability according to them). The second night we had to move to another room which was "an upgrade" from our booking. At no moment did they make a commercial gesture (even a coffee)...
The room was bigger and with a nice balcony but again not up to their numerous stars: lots of stains of the carpet, arm chairs dirty, curtains not closing properly, mini bar not refilled, balcony full of pigeons droppings (!).
The rooms (we tried 3 in total!) did not have the expected tea and coffee facilities or free water bottles (specially when they add 5 euros for room service charge: one liter bottle cost then 9 euros!).
The breakfast service was poor and the staff although willing looked overwhelmed and in a hurry to clear the buffet at 10 am. The restaurant was expensive and the food was quite basic and uneven. Disappointing.
I tried the spa as I read about it in a magazine and was again disappointed even though the massage was good (i took the signature massage from the hotel). The facilities are small, overrated and the hammam was dirty. The photos are very misleading and to have to pay 10 or 20 euros to use the spa in a 5 star hotel was quite a shock to both of us...

When we raised these issues to the management they had somehow always a good excuse:
AC was not working because the temperature hit record highs, stains do not mean dirt on the carpets, pigeons droppings cannot be controlled even though they clean every day (this is a pure lie as the stains were old and were not cleaned when we were there).

We do not recommend this hotel unless they drop their prices which are the unique reason this hotel claims to be a 5 star.

We spent a romantic week at Real Villa, the experience was above expectations. From the moment of arrival, the staff takes excellent care of its guests. We had an upgrade (even if booking via booking.com), and a super spacious suite. The food at breakfast was good, service and food at the pool (the pool is really nice by the way!) very good, wine selection excellent. Also important, the hotel is located a short walk away from Cascais town and the harbour. Lastly, the hotel booked a round of golf for us at Quinta da Marinha, which was billed to the room, which I found very helpful. My husband had only one remark, he found the massage therapist not good enough. Besides from that, we were sad to leave!

This hotel is amazing! The rooms are simply gorgeous! Almost everything you could imagine is in the room, including buttons by your bed to open and shut the curtains. The pool is big and nice for children. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. It is located a short walk from the center of Cascais, a wonderful resort town on the Atlantic Ocean just 1/2 hour from Lisbon, Portugal.

We stayed five nights. The hotel itself is very clean and well decorated. Everything was sparking clean and thoughtful. The staff was exceptional and went out of their way to ensure our comfort. The hotel itself is lovely with much thought put into every detail, but the staff makes the Villa Italia stand above the rest. We plan to stay here when ever we visit Cascais. Fantastic stay and definitely recommended.
