“Wonderful!”
Reviewed June 18, 2014 via mobile

I have to say we were a bit worried if the place will not be old and smelly due to some bad reviews here and on booking.com... But what a mistake!
Our whole stay was great! Staff was more than helpful, they let us check in earlier and check out at 7pm! for only half price of a room rate, they made a reservation in one restaurant for us and gave us a lot of helpful tips, we felt like in our family house :)
The room and the view was magical and very clean, we loved it! The location is perfect as well.
Make a reservation for a room no 6!

Villa Albatroz is not the same as Albatroz Hotel although they have the same management. The villa - which is not a 5-star hotel - itself is very charming and we had a beautiful huge romantic room upstairs. Everything was OK and we had very good price for the 4 days we spent there.

Hotel Albatroz Bayside Villa is often confused, even by taxi drivers, with Hotel Albatroz further up the bay towards Estoril. To add to confusion, on the wall of the Bayside Villa is signed "Villa Cascais xxxxx". Also tripadvisor has listed with both hotels with the same name, Hotel Albatroz, only differentiated by a different address.

This is undoubtedly a lovely position, right on a promontory dividing a small boating bay and marina from the larger bay round to Estoril and beyond.
However, the hotel does not really come up to 5 star standards, rather 3 stars at best. The only truly 5 star aspect is the price of a stay, currently 182 euros on their website.

The room, No 9, in which we stayed, had a view over the rooftops to the bay towards Estoril. It was of a good size but lacked the little luxuries expected of a 5 star hotel. Everything seemed rather worn. The bath/shower arrangement did not work - we had to fill the bath via the shower hose, getting soaked in the process!

The hotel has a tiny, elderly, old fashion lift with 3 sides, which jammed when we were in it - the hotel staff then blamed us for the malfunction.

The breakfasts were good and there was a lovely conservatory in which to take it, but the staff were not very evident at 9 a.m. All in all, the staff did not come up to the standard of a 5 star hotel, although perfectly pleasant - one advised us against the restaurant, which is evidently a separated enterprise, as there was a better choice in the town.

We stayed six nights there. The hotel is divided in two buildings. We stayed at Estalagem Villa Albatroz that is closer to the Cascais Citadel. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, you have free toiletries, the staff is great and the service is fabulous but overall the hotel lacks many things. It's expensive. Very. Then it's old and needs to be taken care of and renovated. Bathrooms and windows look old. The breakfast is very basic. Think twice when selecting a place to stay in Cascais. And the most important thing, probably, this building doesn't have a Wi-Fi connection! It's 2013, isn't it? Internet is available for free in the 2nd building that is 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: Try to climb higher. The 3rd floor has good views

This hotel is in a great location by the sea. We had room 5, which is very small but has a good view and a big bathroom. Unfortunately it is directly above the restaurant, and so it's noisy and smelly until quite late. It didn't help that the staff we clattering about and singing after hours, and then it all starts up again as they prepare breakfast. The breakfast was OK and the reception staff were very pleasant. People in rooms on higher floors had fewer noise problems, so we were just unlucky.

Room Tip: Avoid room 5 or any at the front above the restaurant.

This originally a house but refurbish become a boutique villa. We had a room in the corner and it was facing the beach, very nice. The location very perfect and the room was pretty with Portuguese tiles. The bad thing was about the Wifi since we had to go to the main hotel for connection, many guests has complained about this but no change so far

This hotel is not to be confused with its sister hotel the Albatross, which is of a completely different standard and quality.

Our room had a very aspect overlooking the bay and was light and airy. The bathroom was a fully tiled one in Portuguese fashion, but that was done many years ago. Really an update is now needed.

The receptionist who met us was exceptionally friendly and helpful. He offered to park our car, as space in the car park at the front was limited.

Wifi was not available or working, so we went to the sister hotel, the Albatroz, to use theirs. In fact we stayed to have dinner there, which was excellent and wished we had booked in there.

Breakfast at the Villa Alb in the morning was poor. Croissants were good, but not much else. Only a buffet seemed available and it was tired.

Next time, we will try the sister hotel.
