The place is historic yes, so their attitude and services, at the check in i found out they don't accept USD and they do not have currency exchange service, so if you are american or a non EU citizen either use credit card or get some Euros with you, the rooms are not clean although I had asked them to clean it, it seems that they don't know how to clean, I found spiders, flies and hair on the bed and in the bathroom, and it gets you half a minute to get bored from the room, with its plain white walls no mirrors or pictures and a small window looking over an ancieny huge wall.
, I also found a dead fly in my coffee I had at the restaurant and they even did not appologize they just removed it from the bill, the reception didn't answer the phone all the time, their breakfast is okay.
my overall opinion it is terrible to stay there.

My partner and I stayed in this hotel for a long weekend. On arriving at the hotel we were really impressed - as the building is very impressive. There is also a great view from the rooms and the breakfast area (and buffet) is fantastic. However, the service leaves much to be desired - especially in the bar - which is very slow and the night we went there they did not even have any beer. Ridiculous. Also, we could not have a bath as the plug in our bathroom did not fit properly and kept leaking out of the water. This was not fixed for us.

The pool is actually inside, so when it is sunny it is a bit strange to be swimming inside.

Personally, If i were coming back to the area, then I would choose another hotel with an outside pool, friendlier staff and a bit of a warmer atmosphere.

Just returned from 4 nights at the Pousada de Cascais. Very comfortable, stylish hotel. Designed as it is around the old fortress, it is quite an unusual layout. I counted over 200 metres from our room to reception!

Perfectly situated for the town, my only complaint would be the lack of parking. Add €20/day for the adjacent car park, if you are driving.

We stayed in the Pousada de Cascais for three nights. The location is excellent as the downtown area is a couple of blocks away. The marina is also right next door. You must get a room that overlooks the ocean as the combination of views between the marina and the ocean are fabulous. It is located in the old Citadel and the combination of old and new is fabulous. The people that work at the hotel are very helpful and accommodating, and very nice. Breakfast included was extraordinary. Definitely would stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a room with marina and ocean views with a terrace.

The hotel location, in the fort at the marina, is outstanding. It's very smart and stylish, well-appointed and very clean. We were a little disappointed as our booking confirmation stated we'd have a kitchenette and balcony, but the staff explained we'd have to pay extra for these. So...no balcony, so the rooms did feel a little closed-in. Check with the booking company exactly what's provided-lowcostholidays website states 'balcony and kitchenette' but these were extra (starting from 39 euros a night) However, the hotel has a lovely rooftop terrace with sunbeds and double mattress beds, plus a nice pool, sauna, steam room etc. Towels are provided there. The breakfast was amazing-the juiciest mango and other fresh fruits, an amazing array of cheeses, bread products, bacon, eggs, etc. The food was wonderful. Coffee and bar drinks were pricey, although coffees came with a selection of biscuits and alcoholic drinks had crisps. Unfortunately, the rooms didn't have tea/coffee facilities which meant we had to always buy these. Parking at the car park nearby was expensive, so we drove to the nearby streets by the Paulo Rego gallery where you could park all day free of charge. You could enter the courtyard and drop off/pick up when arriving/departing. Staff were friendly and professional, and the rooms were cleaned twice daily to a high standard. The location was great too-just a short stroll to the centre of Cascais past some lovely restaurants on the hill-down to sandy beaches and nice cafes. Just a shame we'd expected a balcony or outside access and felt a little closed in-and the lack of tea/coffee maker, otherwise this would've been 5 star.

The Pousada is a luxury hotel inside what was an old fort, overlooking the Marina, and just five minutes' walk into the charming town of Cascais.
We booked a standard double room but for no apparent reason we were given a free upgrade to a suite. The suite was awesome, - two rooms, each with a sofa and flat screen TV, and the larger room with two chairs, a large coffee table, and an eight foot double bed! The en-suite bathroom was equally luxurious.

However the one window in the room was rather small and too high to enable a view. The lighting in the smaller room was inadequate to see into the wardrobe and cupboard. Additionally the bedside spotlights, presumably for bedtime reading, were either both on or both off, and controlled from one side of the bed! These criticisms aside, we did very much enjoy the suite, and the huge bed was very comfortable.

Breakfast was fantastic. There was a bewildering array of breads, pastries, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, juices, and hot foods too. It was served in the delightful upstairs dining room which overlooks the Marina and the sea. This upstairs dining room closed at 1700 which was a great disappointment as the alternative cafeteria, next to the reception area, has no view, and consequently we found the place to be nearly always empty. Possibly the exorbitant prices exacerbated the situation too. We did not eat in the hotel, not solely because of the expense, but we preferred to explore the interesting village of Cascais.

All the staff we met were absolutely excellent. They are friendly, helpful, and cheerful, and a great asset to a lovely hotel.

We hesitated a lot before choosing a hotel for a 2-day stay in Cascais in May 2014. Prices were in the range of 150-200 Eur per night for the good ones, so when we came across a deal in Pousada de Cascais [280E/2 nights] we decided to go for it.

Pros: Hotel is recent [I believe about 2-3 years old] and I appreciate the idea of transforming an ancient fortress into a hotel. Position is very good, hotel is on a hill overlooking the marina & old city. The room design was modern [we had the standard room], large bathroom, facilities were very good [liked the sun beds on the upper deck] - but pool way too small [good only for kids-so ok for families]. Gym is also very small. Breakfast and dinner - ok [good food, but not outstanding]. Excellent service in the restaurant/dinner and during breakfast.

Cons: Problems with the check-in that I would not expect from a hotel in this range. As couple, I booked a double-bed room [asked for a room in the new area] - but we were given a twin-bed room [in the older part], although it was obvious that it is not appropriate. I raised this issue and requested a room according with the reservation, had to stand discussions & wait more than 1 hr to check-in [this was happening at around 3 pm, so in the end we left the luggage and left for a walk].
I disliked that Reception tried to convince us that this was still a "double-room" [!], and strangely enough a person that seemed from the management was around and did not anything to stop the this embarrassing situation. Reception finally solved the problem [we were given a double bed room], but we lost time and I didn't like the way they handled it. I did my best to avoid an open fight [after all it's about holidays], but I would advise the staff & management at a friendly level not to try this approach too often with customers that book a hotel in this range, since they are usually aware of the difference between a double-bed room and a twin-bed one...

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the marina are nice, but overpriced in my view. I would go for a standard room in...
