The friendliness of the staff is the main strength. At breakfast coffee cups are refilled instantly. I mentioned to reception that we were leaving the next day and within a couple of hours they had organised a late check-out at no extra charge. Our room, looking inland, was white and minimalist but with plenty of storage space and a large screen TV with around 40 channels. However, the shower was difficult to use and there was little room in the bathroom for storage.
Beds are very comfortable and on our side of the building there was a monastic silence at night.

It is in a great location, overlooking the marina and within a five minute walk of the centre of Cascais. Easy to walk to the railway station to catch the train into Lisbon or buses to Sintra and Cabo do Roca.

Tea and coffee-making facilities were missed. Some eccentric translation on the menu put us off the main restaurant.

We took advantage of the introductory opening offer so it provided outstanding value.

Overall a nice stay at this brand new hotel. The refurbishment is impressive and the historic courtyard creates a dramatic arrival. We stayed in the top suite and the finish of the room was just what I was looking for. Elegant, modern and understated. Mostly the staff were charming, friendly and professional and we enjoyed a fantastic meal of contemporary tapas, in addition to a delicious breakfast overlooking the marina each morning. Both myself and my companion also indulged in a massage which was one of the best I've ever had....and I've had a few!

That said there were a few things that could have been done better. Principally I was most disappointed with the pool and spa area. The pool is tiny and also cold, strange given that it is indoors. Certainly once the hotel is at full occupancy it will definitely not be big enough. Given how many rooms there are in the hotel I am suprised Pestana did not invest in a larger pool. There are no lockers or changing room (other than the toilet) and the area is also used for breakfast in the morning. With tables so close it does put you off having a swim.

I guess one thing Pestana can't change is the 2 or 3 bars in the Marina which our €585 per night suite overlooked. Come 10pm you are treated to the very best of euro-house music which lasts until the early hours. When you've paid that much for a room with a view it's a shame you can't relax watching the moonlit sea. If I was Pestana I'd be buying those bars out as soon as possible, it's only the suits that have this problem.

Other recommendations I'd make for improvement would be a better stocked minibar which was very basic and decent tea and coffee facilities in the room (I can't function without caffeine first thing and don't really want the hassle of room service). Also being told that reception couldn't help us with access to the nightclub on site which looked like fun....I believe that's what concierge are supposed to be able to arrange, especiallt if the club is actually in the hotel.

Finally on check out this morning I was literally only told the total cost of my stay, had to ask for a breakdown of the bill and most importantly was neither thanked for my visit nor asked if I had enjoyed my stay. This is basic hotel service and I was surprised not one of the four people on reception got this right. Easy to fix and I am sure they will.

Overall an enjoyable stay but for a hotel that positions itself as luxury I didn't feel I was getting particularly good value compared to other leading hotels I have stayed in. We spent just under €2,000 for 3 days and expected that bit more.
