“Can't really fault this hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

Stayed here from 4/6/13-7/6/13

The staff are all really friendly and chatty and made us feel welcome.

The rooms are spacious, really modern and very clean - view at the front of the hotel is not great and there was a cockerel that enjoyed the sound of its own voice (no idea where it was either)! Loads of channels on the TV that are English - sounds sad but we had a lot of rain so it came in handy!

The hotel is in a great location, turn left out the road and enjoy a walk along the coast and head towards the marina - we found this a gorgeous area of cascais but a bit like a ghost town - maybe it was just the rain?

When you get to the marina there are some stairs by an oldish looking building - not sure what it is. If you follow it round it takes you into the centre where there is actually more to see than we initially thought. lots of little shops and bars - We ate at a black and white one cant remember the name but it had Harley Davidson logo outside it - the chicken and chips is really nice and fairly priced. The Irish bar O'Neils was popular as well.

If you want a beach there is a small beach area near the marina that has lovely sand and seemed to be quiet enough to relax on.

The food at the hotel is buffet style and actually there is a fair amount of choice - we found some mornings the beans were cold but everything is kept well topped up. You can also have champagne free of charge as part of the buffet.

The pool area is clean and tidy and lots of sunbeds - it was quiet when we went so no fight for sunbeds (on the one sunny day) but i cant imagine they have any problems!

It is quite windy in the area around the hotel so bare that in mind when packing - we didnt!!!

i would recommend this hotel if you are going to cascais!!!!

Stayed here for a long weekend for a family wedding held nearby. Great hotel, rooms large and clean, and we got the room at a great price £80 bb, which we were more than happy to pay. Nice balcony, and view ok but not sea view. The bed was massive (two beds together) bathroom with shower over head, all clean and with toiletries.
Pool area nice and clean, childrens pool lovely.
The bar always manned, and waiters helpful.
Breakfast was great, lost of choice and all fresh and kept filled up.
Only negative is no tea and coffee making facilities in room, and also no irons, you have to pay for the laundary to take things off to be ironed.

If your staying in caiscais , this is an ideal hotel, rooms were nice, big and clean, staff were pleasant, the breakfast though was basic, but satisfactory for a breakfast, ideal time to avoid queue in the morning for tables would be before 9am or 9:30am, corridors were quiet at night, and could not hear next door residents, we faced the adjoining park nice view, but the wild life, especially the peacocks made noise early and late at night, so be prepared! for early awake calls!, but the main point for this hotel is its location just 5-10mins from the town along the coastal promenade, so you avoid traffic and any late nite revellers noise, so for a nice hotel and location it is ideal, caiscais is a lovely village, nice beaches, but beware the atlantic ocean is a bit cold! you can get the train to Lisbon very easy from here, it is a lovely city to walk around, with easy access to the metro as well, recommend visits to oceanario de lisboa, views from castelo s Jorge, and you have to eat at the masala indian restaurant, rua frederico arouca, caiscais, best indian food you will get. and make sure to visit Santini icecream parlour caiscais, fantastic homemade icecream, and make sure you taste the national custard dessert in belem, things to avoid! the cycle to quincho, far too windy and not much scenery and was not impressed by sintra, palaces over priced and bus journey and bus drivers not that friendly, but Portugal people are very friendly and helpful, stick to the trains! have a great time!

Room Tip: was on 4th floor, was quiet expect noise from peacocks!, but its the hotel location which is great

OK, the good points.
We were upgraded to a suite which was spacious, cleaned daily and quiet. We backed onto the park, which was not recommended, but was fine and the gentle wake-up from the peacocks in the park at the back was not a problem.
The breakfast was the same every morning, which was not unexpected, but was of decent standard and plentiful.
The walk into the centre was quite nice and not a problem (even with a two-year old). In a way it was nice to be a little further away from the centre and have a short walk home after tea in the evening.
The pool was nice and getting a sunbed wasn't a problem.

The main problem that we had with the hotel was an incident of stealing. Having left her bag in the hotel bar on an evening, my partner collected it from the reception once she realised (after approx 20 mins). We immediately went to the 'Head barman' to say thank you and to comment on his good service. He said that he realised straight away but once he had chased us out of the bar to see where we had gone, he couldn't find us so delivered it directly to the reception for us to pick it up from there... it was only when we checked that we realised that we were 120 euros down-somebody on the staff had been in the purse! The mobile phones remained, the coins too, only the notes had gone!

We didn't drink in the bar again!

Room Tip: Above the third floor

We stopped at this hotel for 5 nights end of May on a half board basis. Our group consisted of 5 adults (2 elderly) and 2 children aged 11 and 13. The hotel is in a fabulous location near to the harbour and across the road from the sea front. It is just a short (10 minute) walk through a beautiful park, or along the sea front, to the town centre. The town is pretty and atmospheric with plenty of good restaurants. The rooms were larger than average, clean and very comfortable. We ate in the hotel at breakfast and dinner. Both meals were buffet style. Breakfast was excellent with many choices of hot and cold food. Dinner was average, the best on offer being soup and a good selection of cheeses. The service from the bar and dining room was excellent. I would definitely return to this hotel and stay in a sea view room.

Room Tip: I would recommend a sea view room. All rooms are large and comfortable - fantastic power showers. Ou...

This hotel has a nice location, not that far from the lovely port and some 15 minutes walk to the small city.
Our room was large, the quality of the beds was excellent. If possible ask for a room at the 6th floor with seeview. We stayed at nr. 524 which is located in front of the elevator...
The staff is kind and helpful.
Unfortunately the evening meal was always the same and cold. The quality and variety of breakfast was ok.
A good advice for you all: because of the bad weather conditions during our stay, I catched a cold/laryngitis. I called my family doctor in Belgium and he adviced me to take a medicine which is only obtainable on prescription.
The hotel had, so called, a family doctor which they deal with.
After many hours he came to my room with his assistant (who?). After his check-up I was obliged to pay immediately 250 euro. Even he wanted to inject me with valium plus some pills!! pure MAFFIA from doctor and hotel.
Moreover and after investigation, in case that doctor is not registrated in Portugal, I will not be able to recuperate the money from the social insurance company in Belgium.
A very good advice, inform yourself on beforehand and take with you the essential medication and don't pay this sum. Contact the travel agency and/or your local social insurance.

Room Tip: If possible ask a room on the 6th floor if with seeview.

I have just returned from a week in Cascais. Stayed on a half-board basis in the Vila Gale Hotel.
The variety of food for breakfast was very good. The chef was available to cook eggs any style.
The buffet in the evening was also very good, great salad bar, the hot food was good but sometimes could have been hotter. The staff in the restaraunt were good and always on hand to attend to additional requests. The Bar staff were very attentive, great cocktails.
The rooms are very spacious, however our room was a bit dull overlooking the museum at the side of the hotel. The walk into Cascais only takes about 10 minutes and is really beautiful. Great views as you approach the bay.
The only downside to our stay was roadworks outside.

Dear Guest,

We thank you for your review and for your description about our hotel, being considered a gem was truly appreciated by our staff.

We have just finished the implementation of new standards for Breakfast and Dinner Buffet service and it was very good to realize that the variety and quality of them were appreciated.

Despite the fact of not being a repair from the hotel I would like to apologise for the inconvenience that road repair may caused you, but fortunately it was finished and therefore if you visit us again you wont be bothered by it.

We hope to welcome you again in Vila Galé Cascais or in any other Vila Galé Hotel always close to you.
