This hotel was ok.
You have to pay €28 for internet access for the week.
You have to pay (can't remember how much) for the room's safe.
Non-sea view is fine if you're going to get out and about - which you should.
Breakfast was a buffet - cereals, fruit, bread, scrambled egg, ham, cheese, sausages(yuk), rashers( yuk), madiera cake (yum), T, coffee etc.
Room has cooker hobs & you can boil water etc - no kettle though!
Clean hotel, helpful staff, located a bit outside Cascais but had a free hotel mini-bus leaving on the hour ( mon-fri) dropping at train station & from there back at 20 past the hour up to 6pm.
Free ( local council) bike " rental" is available (single gear old crocks) just down at the coast nearby. NB - there have nothing to do with the hotel.
The "gym" ( health centre) is just there to pretend to have something - there is nothing of use there - don't plan to use it - no weights at all!
Taxi from town centre (for 2 people) is cheaper than local bus, but not from hotel.
Walkers would like the walk.
Bikers can have a fine cycle westward along the coast to nice beaches - great views & waves - the few food places there were shut at this time of the year.
Very nice coffee shop across the road and supermarket too.

Room Tip: Get out of the hotel after breakfast and see the region.

We stayed at the hotel for a long weekend. It's a five minute 4 Euro taxi to the centre of Cascais, the same to Oitavos dune and Quinta de marina golf courses. A good pool and garden, tennis courts and reasonable breakfast made it ideal for our purposes. The room had two beds, a sofa and a small kitchenette and was ok. Overall the hotel is a typical tourist 3 - 4 star establishment, but nearer to 3.

Room Tip: Choose a pool view room for views and evening sun

We stayed at Pestana Cascais Hotel from Sept. 19 th to Oct. 3 rd. Room number 425.
Why were we disillusioned? The shuttlebus was during several days not available since it broke down. Afterwards we were also informed that the shuttlebus service was not operating on Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 1 st onwards. A walk to the centre of Cascais takes about three quarters of an hour!
When we first entered our room on Sept. 19 th we noticed that the air conditioning did not work. We informed the reception desk and it took two days to have it repaired.
As most people know, Portuguese food feeds a man but is not palatable.
Wifi is very expensive indeed. So is the safe box: 21 € for a fortnight.
A positive point is the friendliness of the staff .

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea sight and an air conditioning that works.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Pestana. The staff couldn't do enough for you and it had all the facilities I wanted: outdoor pool which swam in every day and an indoor pool whic was warmer and gym facilities. The food was excellent with several choices each evening. I loved the fish. Situated just out of town was good for me with a courtesy bus every hour to and from Cascais. It was also a lovely walk along by the sea to the town. Stop half way for a very cheap beer. We hired a bicycle for free and cycled part way to Guincho Beach along a dedicated cycle path. Within easy reach by train to Lisbon and Sintra both well worth visiting.

Room Tip: As a single person had a lovely double room at no extra cost having travelled with Saga.

We stayed in June 2011 and I had booked the room direct and got one with a great sea view.

I notice some people are saying that it does not match the 'Stars' rating, so I think a little explanation on 'Stars' is appropriate at this time.

I have been lucky enough during my 45 years working life to have stayed in hotels throughout Europe, the Far East, America and actually lived in Hong Kong, so hotels and Star Rating Internationally, I know well. Star ratings on hotels are 'Country Ratings' on Stars. We have 4 Star hotels in the UK that I would struggle to offer them 2 Stars.

Stars are country ratings, as there is no international 'Stars' rating.

Also, for we folk using Pounds Sterling and countries tied to the Euro (really an old German DM currency with a new name-The Euro!), then their price can look high relative to their ratings and Stars and the prices just 5 years ago.

For around £110 a night, with breakfast for 2, with a sea view (forgetting the Star Rating), it is value for money in Portugal with the current Euro exchange rates. Yes, a 4 Star Hotel in Portugal is going to be nowhere near a 4/5 Star in some Far East countries, so do your research and be realistic or go to Thailand, Bali, Malaysia or Singapore. You will get 4/5 Stars, but you will pay for it.

We found the staff helpful, but of course less staff than 40 years ago when we first went to Portugal and when many of the 4 Star hotels were new. Hotels are struggling with massive increase in running costs, electricty, gas, staff and high VAT and so they cannot refurbish to 'New' every few years.

4 Star I would agree is 1 Star too many, based on Far East hotels, but still a nice hotel, nice staff and a wonderful location.

Would i stay there again, yes.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view, don't get a room overlooking the car park...............but if you are...

We have just returned from a wonderful 7 night stay at the Pestana Cascais Hotel. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to travel to cascais. It is a little out of town but only takes approx 30 mins to walk along the coast into the town ( beautiful scenery and passes "boca de inferno" or a short trip in a taxi costing about €4.60 to the train station. There is a shop across the road from the hotel and some bars and restaurants locally too. As the rooms in the pestana have a fridge, the shop is handy for drinks and snacks.

The staff at the hotel are wonderful and friendly. Especially the Bar and restaurant staff, particularly Jose Pedro Riberio "Pedro" in the bar and also Andre Ornelas (Bar) and Andre from the restaurant. The bar is a great place to begin your evening, even if heading into town. The staff really put you in a good mood with their attentive service and witty banter. There is music each evening and the restaurant food and service is enjoyable. Breakfast in the mornings provides a wide selection of hot and cold food and is buffet style, eating in or outdoors. It tends to get busy around 845 and 945 as the Courtesy bus leaves for the town at 9 and 10 and other times throughout the day. it also travels to guincho beach 3 times a day which is very handy or you could take the free Bikes at Bikecas just around the corner from the hotel. Its an 8km Cycle on mosty flat path.
The Hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool and plenty sunloungers alongside the Attended pool bar which offers a nice selection of drinks and snacks, Hot and Cold.

Our rooms were attended daily and always to a good standard.

The Hotel can organise a transfer from the hotel to Lisbon Airport which we availed of, and costing 75 euro for 5 of us we thought this was excellent value as a taxi for 2 costs 40 euro. Our driver was a lovely knowledgable man who was able give us lots of information on the history of portugal.

Overall, i would highly recommend a stay at the Pestana Cascais, we will booking again for sure!!

Thanks to the Pestana Cascais for a winderful Holiday in Cascais

We really enjoyed our stay at the Pestana, where we had a family suite. It was comfortable and well equiped with air conditioning. The pool was great although the water could have been a little warmer. We found it a little too cool to use the outdoor pool put the indoor one was fine. The sauna and steam rool were an added bonus. Breakfast is a buffet and was very nice.

Room Tip: Let reception know if you want to use the steam room and sauna otherwise they turn them off.
