If you align your expectations with the photos displayed on the website you will be certain to be disappointed. While everything is physically there according to the pictures you cannot see the cracks, chipped paint and rust stains which abound. The pool (more an over-sized tub) and the pool area are very small and many of the pool chairs have long ago passed their use-by date. The pool overlooks a public beach which is regularly overrun with hordes of screaming school children during the day and rowdy drunken teenagers at night. You'll only need to bring one book since you'll be reading and re-reading the same line over and over again.

The "garden" is nothing more than a patch of grass intersected by the entrance drive of an adjacent private villa.

Despite the fact that we booked our 8 day stay months in advance and a personal call I made to reception to ensure that we got a nice "superior room with sea view" we we given a room on the ground floor directly on the pool area. While we did indeed have a sea view the people lying at the pool had an even better view directly into our room. We lived with the curtains drawn, in darkness, for the first two days until we were moved to a higher floor. After a bit of "negotiation" I was given a token discount. No apology was offered and no one enquired as to our general satisfaction.

This place has about as much elegance as a Marks & Spensers. We were very disappointed indeed. There are far nicer establishments in Cascais and neighboring Estoril for about the same money. If you still decide to go at least be certain to specifiy "NO GROUND FLOOR ROOM" on your reservation.

I have been staying at HOTEL ALBATROZ, CASCAIS, PORTUGAL for some 18 years now; if paradise has been lost in our busy chaotic world of today, this is where one regains PARADISE. Just returned from few days stay to de- stress myself, after family crisis. Albatroz DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Stunning, heavenly location, beautiful rooms. Sophisticated, but inviting elegance. As for sitting in the Albatroz Restaurant, overlooking the blue seas and beach, listening to the waves splashing the rocks, watching the surfs and suds roll onto and off the soft sandy beach; what privilege and pleasure! The food is so fresh and picturesque one almost wants to place it on one's face and body as Monet art work. So flavourful and satisfying too. The friendliest restaurant staff anywhere in the world, and I am an extensive world traveller. Simply, Hotel Albatroz; paradise regained! See you soon.

Room Tip: The balcony, sea- view rooms for me, are the best. Sitting on the balcony, or with open balcony door...

I was here for a meeting: spent four days in a lovely room in the annex to the hotel, an old palazzo that has been thoughtfully and elegantly restored. The meeting rooms are well-maintained and equipped, the staff solicitous, and the amenities with regard to the restaurant as well as to coffee breaks are handled well. The restaurant itself has a varied and excellent menu and service. The swimming pool on the premises is outdoors and a bit on the small side. But i was here for a meeting and not to swim in a hotel pool. Definitely would recommend this for future meetings.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor of the annex...these are large, airy rooms, with spacious balconie...

For the past 25 years, I have organised one or two annual high level, high quality conferences for leafing biomedical professionals from around the world. Over and above a good meeting room (the one at the Albatroz is excellent) I need a top grade small hotel, superb food and wine, a great ambience and a location where delegates can enjoy natural beauty and great culture. The Albatroz ticks all those boxes. However, superb facilities are not enough - the key to a successful meeting and an enjoyable stay rests with the staff of the hotel and here the Albatroz is outstanding: the hotel is run under the watchful eye of the owners who discretely ensure that everything functions perfectly, the commercial office responsible for running meetings was excellent, hard working and energetic such that nothing was too much trouble, creative suggestions were offered and one felt convinced that the success of the meeting was as important to them as I was to me. The front desk performed with charm and efficiency and the kitchens produced a sublime series of meals and (rather unusually) were willing to adapt their in house style and menus to the needs of the customer rather than imposing the standard 'group menu'. The rooms are delightful and different maintained to a high standard by the housekeeping team - most rooms have sea and/or beach views and the ones in the adjoining Palace wing and wonderful. I have no hesitation in recommending the Albatroz and Cascais for a private stay or for holding a quality meeting in the knowledge that the guests will be very happy and well looked after.

You always gamble with a new hotel. Let us tell you - the Albatroz is not a gamble. It was a bit out of our normal price range but in terms of value for money was superb. We relaxed from the first minute and enjoyed every second. The staff could not have been kinder or the facilities better. The breakfast on the terrace over the sea was a delight, as was the room with the sea view balcony. The pool area and the lounge were spot on. No its not bang up to date - instead you get charm and style.
Its right in the centre of a great town but you feel secluded. The beaches round it are great. The rail and bus station are a stones throw away but don't intrude.
If you want to escape, relax but stay in a town with a bit of buzz then check in at the Albatroz and Cashcais. Like Arnie said 'we'll be back'.

Nice rooms and good and friendly staff. They are making an effort to be a hotel with luxury standards. It's just that it all feels a bit dated and worn around the edges, albeit very nice. There's nice pool area, although I never tried it due to the weather. The breakfast is good with a wide selection of all the various breakfasty foods you might want - sausages to mousse au chocolat. We ate at the restaurant in the evening and it reallly felt like the menu needs to be updated to the 21st century. It was really 80's style with lots of sauce and frying the steak next to the table. But cooking wise it was well cooked and tasted right. It all felt a bit like Fawlty Towers, but in the nicest possible way. The views are excellent, so make sure you get a seaview room. The complementary Port wine was also nice (refilled every day)

Room Tip: Get a seaview room, you won't regret it.

An amazing old Hotel that although it needs a refurb still has amazing qualities .The location is so central, but the views are breathtaking .Lunch is superb the food is great but the view is outstanding
Breakfast is also quite something as the views onto the beach and the Atlantic are incredible.
The rooms have seen better days but were spotless and the linen was superb but all in all they need attention especially the bathrooms
Staff were fantastic nothing to much trouble

Room Tip: Sea facing is a must
