We had a 5 nights stay in February. Very big modern comfortable rooms which have everything you need (even on the terrace you have a sofa with cushions). The employees are very kind and helpful (as always in Portugal), the food is delicious, refined, with original ideas. The room service dinner was very quick, with a good variety and excellent presentation and taste. The breakfast buffet is really outstanding with very fresh and excellent quality products (local cheeses, fruit, homemade cakes).
The golf course is a beautiful links with gorgeous views on the ocean and a beautiful wild vegetation. A lot of care has been put to maintain a natural aspect. The golf course surrounds the hotel. It is so convenient to pick up your clubs next to the lobby and walk directly to tee number 1. The weather changes quickly in February so it is better to have a wind and rain proof jacket with you. But the caddie master very kindly lent me an umbrella.
We also tried the indoor swimming pool (perfect warm temperature), the jacuzzi, the gym and the bikes rental. Everything was perfect, it was hard to leave!!

The hotel is fantastic, the people are "special",,the rooms are outstanding and the ambiance it is unique.
In terms of rooms, the areas and the decoration are realy special and the view of all the rooms is fantastic. The mix of the green from the trees and golf course with the blue of the sea it is something very unique.
If you like golf, well you are in the right place. The course it is defenetly one of the best courses of the world.
It is one of the places that come, and when you live you think: I will come back!

The rooms have an open plan bathroom in which the toilet can be seen from the bed and front door ! The GLASS sliding door is only frosted about one metre up so you can watch your loved one or friend having a poo! And this was a twin room so more likely to be your friend. The shower is the same. They have no soundproofing either. I mean who actually thinks that is a good thing? 'Oh great I can watch my husband have a poo'. Disgusting. If you don't want to share this ritual use the toilets in reception or in the basement below reception.
5 star? There is no tea or coffee making facility in the room. No iron or trouser press. Breakfast is a shambles. Overcrowded and our order for coffee and then later for milk was quickly forgotten. Around half the staff do not smile or interact with you at all. The other half are quite good. Sat by the pool with a menu for half an hour and no one came to take my order. The hotel itself is just a steel girder frame with partitions. You are a good walk from the sea. Food is quite expensive. Plus points: The golf course looks good. Hotel is clean. Staff at our evening event were better but cleared the table of ALL drinks every time you went to the dance floor or loo, thereby adding to the free bar bill. Hotel provided a taxi back to the airport (56€). Hair raising journey with speeding, tailgating, gesticulating to other drivers and a couple of near misses. Would never return.

Dear Madame

Thank you for your comments. We truly appreciate your feedback as a valued guest.

1. Regarding your comment about the open planned layout of your room, we wish to inform you that we have other rooms in which bathrooms are physically separate from the chamber, allowing greater privacy. We need however to clarify that in the open planned rooms were you stayed, the bathroom area it’s hidden from the living room and bedroom area by a big cabinet (that is 4 meters wide for 2 tall, thus working like a wall) with no direct views from the bed, entrance or the sofa into the bathroom, toilet and shower areas included. As for the soundproofing both the toilette and the shower are inside thick glass cubicles, when doors are closed the sound proofing is as effective as in a room with a bathroom separated by a wall.
2. As for the tea or coffee machine, we took good notice of your comment and will discuss it internally; however we must remind you that we provide a 24h room service in order to fulfill all our guests food and beverages requests.
3. As for the iron and ironing board, we do have available sets per request at reception; we will however in the future make this information clearer to our guests.
4. According to your comment you stayed with us in December, which mean that the outside pool is closed (due to the normal weather conditions at this time of the year) and as so there is no bar or food service available in the pool area, our apologies if somehow you where misinformed on this.
5. The hotel main door entrance is about 600m away from the sea, if you take the main road path; if sat on your room balcony facing sunset, it’s probably about 350 meters in direct line, not on the beach but also not exactly a “good walk”.

6. Price is always a sensitive issue, but I can assure you that one person can have full meal (starter, main dish desert and a drink) for less than 30 euro’s which can hardly be considered expensive. For benchmark purposes a glass of Douro D.O.C. wine is charged at 4,5 €, a price that will not be easy to found for a glass of wine in most 5 star hotels around the world

7. To the best of our knowledge you were a guest at a private event held by a private company at the hotel, which means that the event, service wise was agreed with that same company that had the strict request that no table was to be left with half empty or dirty glasses. There was no intention whatsoever to take the beverages from clients, even because they could request for another.

8. As you rightfully mentioned the taxi service was provided by us, and we apologize for the less comfortable journey you described. We respectfully request if possible that you email us with your full name in order to identify who was the taxi driver that took you to the airport so that no future taxi services requests are made to him.

9. Please accept our apologies for the less perfect experience with some of our staff will make sure to pass on to our front office team your less positive comment on their attitude.

Kindest Regards
Miguel M Champalimaud

This is a great hotel. The bedrooms are amazing both in size and quality. All meals were also of a high standard. The staff was also very friendly. The hotel is situated in a quiet location surrounded by a golf course ( I am not a golfer but wish I was) a few minutes taxi ride from the centre where one can enjoy various restaurants and pubs.. My only comment (and just to pass a comment) is that on our return to the hotel at midnight the bar was closed. Unfortunately I was at this hotel for a conference, however will definitely return to experience the facilities.

I personally love Oitavos. The golf is fantastic, the spa has excellent facilities plus an amazing design, thenlocation is probably one of the best sea roads in Europe and the weather is always PERFECT.

Room Tip: The rooms are all suites size but the ones with a view to the sea are spectacular.

We stayed there earlier this month for a few days as our preferred hotel in Cascais was full due to a conference. Overall hotel is OK, except for its utilitarian design inside. The lobby is quite small with relatively unfriendly receptionists. Leaving the lobby one enters a long large room which reminds us of an airport departure lounge. It is 100metres long with restaurant and bar to each side of a central walkway. It seemed cold and unfriendly just like the people in the lobby. The room was equally strange and utilitarian. Other than that, the hotel is OK
