“Strange utilitarian design”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

We stayed there earlier this month for a few days as our preferred hotel in Cascais was full due to a conference. Overall hotel is OK, except for its utilitarian design inside. The lobby is quite small with relatively unfriendly receptionists. Leaving the lobby one enters a long large room which reminds us of an airport departure lounge. It is 100metres long with restaurant and bar to each side of a central walkway. It seemed cold and unfriendly just like the people in the lobby. The room was equally strange and utilitarian. Other than that, the hotel is OK

Half an hour away from the Lisbon airport and you are transported into Atlantic coast bliss. Amid a rough and overgrown landscape dotted with restaurants, great vistas and little quaint villages lies the Oitavos Hotel...like a luxury spaceship in the Atlantic dunes.
An architectural marvel it is, not in its opulence but in its sheer functional design. Both its exterior and its interior lines are kept extremely clean to give the guest a feeling of maximum space flooded with light. The rooms are blue...mainly blue, with a one crisp exception that is the magnificent and very comfortable king-size bed clad in crispy white linnen, the painting on the wall an amazing contemporary splash of color.
Service is southern Europe at it's best. The looks I got on the first day were all of exasperation, querying what this stressed man was doing in this serene environment? Alas, I was on business after all...The next day I was doing a lot better!
The golf course is a "must play", just because of the great views and its challenges from the middle tee.
Something about the food...not very imaginative, a mix of cuisines with no real heart or identity of its own. The service staf and the reception crew were very friendly, expedient and experienced.

This hotel exceeded all of our expectations. The service, the views of the sea and golf course, the food, the lounge, the pool. This was a special experience. We had a marvelous view of the golf course and of the sea, we were on the top floor of three floors. Floor to ceiling wall of windows with retractable blinds to your private balcony, huge bed and wonderful bedding, docking station for music, lovely ammenities throughout. Sauna and steam spa included. So nice.

We spent four days staying at this hotel which is in a wonderful position with views of the sea and the excellent golf course. There happened to be two conferences being held whilst we were there but they did not interfere with our enjoyment of the hotel. The rooms are large & spacious with comfortable beds & pillows. The staff are all very helpful and charming and the breakfasts were delicious with a large choice of foods. We went to several excellent local restaurants overlooking the sea which the hotel had recommended as well as eating a tapas meal in the hotel. The pool is an infinity one where there was a nice breeze and you are able to eat lunch beside with lovely views. Cascais is nearby and definitely worth a visit as well as enjoying wonderful walks along the beaches watching the surfers riding the waves. It is a very unspoilt area and yet is very close to Lisbon. Definitely worth a visit and we will be returning.

Every single aspect of the hotel bedroom, lounge area, bathroom, separate shower room, loo and balcony had been planned for maximum comfort and usability. The open plan design was innovative and gave you a feeling of great space and light. The bed was enormous and so comfortable. From a techie point of view, you couldn't have more sockets (including UK 3-pin) and USB ports. There was masses of storage space in the room. The balcony was huge, with a large sofa and two chairs, with a lovely view. The outdoor infinity pool with seawater was great to swim in. The two sinks, separate shower with an overhead and separate hand-held shower, enormous bath, separate hi-tech loo with inbuilt bidet were great. The room was quiet and the entire hotel had a beautiful calmness, with clean lines. A great place to relax.

We stayed at The Oitavos as part of a wedding party for 5 nights. To say we had a great stay would be understating it.

Our room was modern, new and clean with beautiful balcony view of the golf course and coast line. The hotel itself was quiet and peaceful with emphasis on a relaxing atmosphere.
The amenities including an outdoor and indoor pool, spa and saunas were fantastic and well utilized by our party.

However, what makes Oitavos one of our favorite destination experiences was the impeccable service provided by a professional, patient and friendly staff. Be it the front desk, restaurant or room service staff, our requests were always greeted with an eager and whole-hearted effort to assist us.

I lost my phone when in Sintra, which was found by another tourist. The Oitavos staff went out of their way to assist me in retrieving it. To the point where one of the staff actually drove out and picked it up for me.

If you are travelling to Cascais, I would recommend you stay at the Oitavos.
