“Superb stay”

We stayed for 3 nights at this wonderful little boutique hotel and could have stayed for at least a fortnight. Vouzela is a gorgeous old town with lots of character and well worth a detour. The hotel owners, Celeste and Antonio, are the perfect hosts gracious and hospitable well beyond the call of duty. Celeste's breakfast table is an art piece and the food is just as delicious. In fact I have never had a more delightful breakfast. Our room was lovely, especially the big bathroom. The locality is fascinating to explore and we would love to return. We were there for Corpus Christi and the festival was amazing. But I don't want the world to descend on Vouzela and spoil it!

We spent our anniversary at this lovely small boutique hotel. We arrived late afternoon and were greeted warmly by Philipe, the son of the owners. After settling into our room, we sipped wine and were given ham and cheese and some breads. After drinking too much, we asked for a taxi to the restaurant but Celeste offered for Antonio to drive us to a local typical portugese restaurant called Lavardo. The food was tasty, the atmosphere quaint, and the service exceptional. When finished, Antonio picked us up and drove us back to the Casa Museu, and offered us a glass of port to end our anniversary celebration! The breakfast the next morning was also delicious and presented in a fine way. Celeste knows how to entertain. They helped with our reservation in Amarante and sent us to tour a paper making factory which was so interesting as I am an artist and was able to see the paper making process up close and personal. We would definitely revisit this area and stay again at this lovely Casa.

Great stay in small village, the hosts help you with everything you need for a fabulous tourism experience. The rooms are very comfortable with all the details of a five star hotel, breakfast includes home made pastries and jellies, assorted breakfast meats and delicious omelet. They have their own cellar with some wonderful Porto that guests can savor at night.

We were - and in fact still are - in doubt about writing this. For the Casa Museu is a hotel that one should only tell one's very best friends about. So please: keep it for yourself .. ;-)

Of the numerous highlights of our superbe holiday trip through North & Central Portugal, our stay in the Casa Museu was the absolute number #1. Most has been written here already: about the old house that Maria & Tosé Carvalho brilliantly restored into the gem it is now, with a wonderful balance between antique elements and modern design; about their incredible talent for decorating and creating a very pleasant atmosphere ..

I could go on and on, but one has to go there to realize that words are not enough. The welcome, the hospitality and the way Maria & Tosé do everything and even more to spoil their guests are beyond imagination. The Casa Museu is in a class of its own - and we have seen many great hotels.

Four practical details: the Casa Museu is in Vouzela (NOT in Viiseu which is half an hour's drive away); free parking space is usually available in the small square right opposite the hotel; the beds were by far the best of our entire trip; and the breakfast buffet (with Rita Hayworth!) is a bit different than usual, but excellent as well.

Overall: 10 out of 10 doesn't do the Casa Museu justice. We'll be back. Soon.

I can't say enough about what a wonderful hotel and stay that my wife and our two friends had. The small town itself is quaint and friendly with very nice restaurants and beautiful places to stroll.
But the real treat was the hotel- beautiful stone walls throughout, juxtaposed with the most modern of conveniences. The bathrooms were impeccable.
Did I say the Hotel was great. Let me say that the owners and staff were even better. They welcomed us with a wonderful bottle of wine and appetizers and joined us to chat in a lovely large room with a fireplace and comfortable chairs. Breakfast was the best we had in all of Portugal. There was nothing that wasn't 1st rate and all we had to do was ask and anything we even hinted at was there before us- not that there was anything more that was needed.
The owners were so helpful- my wife was taken ill on the day we arrived and the owner went out of her way to make sure we got to a doctor. She even went to get the prescription! Now that's service.
Even if Vouzela is not on your itinerary, go out of your way to get there- and give yourself time to stay awhile and this charming Hotel!

In planning a touring holiday of Portugal I had intended to stay at Viseu. A review on Trip Advisor of Casa Museu and the opportunity to stay in a small village drew me to Casa Museu at Vouzela. Vouzela is a lovely old village 20 - 30 minutes from Viseu. If you want to see the sights of Viseu then a stay at Vouzela does not rule them out. And you will have the opportunity of staying in a lovely 11 room boutique hotel / guesthouse lovingly restored and run by the lovely Maria and her husband Antonio. The hotel has been finished in only the last 4 - 5 years. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Maria and Antonio also have a lovely antique shop across the road and the quality of the pieces in the shop and the hotel confirm that Maria and Antonio are not short on good taste. Breakfast was served in the lovely downstairs room and presented as a wonderful array of fresh fruit pastries and cakes, the best we had anywhere in Portugal and Spain in three and a half weeks. During our stay which was outside peak period Maria and Antonio invited us to the den and the open fire downstairs for some fine vino tinto, great cheese bread and pork bellies. Antonio does not speak English, Maria speaks passable English and their son Philip, a budding film directior speaks good English. Together with our pathetic Portugese we managed to while away 2-3 hours of memorable conversation. An experience with kindness hospitality and wonderful people that I am sure we would have missed if we had stayed in Viseu. And lastly Vouzela is a wonderful village to walk around for an hour or so followed by a coffee and pastries at the cafe across the road fron Casa Museu. And the cost. Sixty Euro a night including breakfast for a double / twin room. You MUST go !!
