“Happy New Year”
Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

I stayed at the Mercure Figueira da Foz as part of a Nee Year package including B&B, New Year's Eve dinner and New Year's Day lunch. This was the second time I stayed there, the first being 10 years ago.
I was happy to see the hotel had gone through some considerable refurbishment. The public areas are now brighter, modern and more welcoming. The rooms are not big, but are confortable, cozy, warm (very convenient for the very cold days we had) and with spectacular views, if you get a sea view room like we did.
Staff is very friendly and service was generally very good.
In more detail:
Things that could be improved:
I can't think of many things, really. Bedroom doors are old and could be modernised. Rooms sound proofing could also be improved. The rooms are well insulated to the outside; however things are quite different when it comes to hear what's going on in the room next door, especially in communicating rooms as was our case. Even so, this improves a lot if you close the internal door, separating the bathroom area and the bed area.
Things I liked, to end on a positive note:
practically everything! Breakfast is varied enough, the staff is very nice and helpful, the new decor is beautiful, the view from the rooms facing the beach is great.
Finally, a quick note to New Year celebrations in Figueira da Foz: a completely mad street party that goes on all night! A surprise and a must.
I strongly recommend the Mercure hotel and the New Year's party in Figueira.

The hotel was quite good. I didn't have much expectation because of reviews I had read, but the hotel was very clean and the location was right in front of the beach.
I paid an extra fee for a beach view room, which was so worth it! I slept with my balcony sliding door open, it was perfect weather for it, and I was able to listen to the waves through the night. It was definitely a bit loud with road traffic until maybe 11pm but I'm a heavy sleeper, so don't mind that. The bathrooms are very nice and clean.

I had dinner at their restaurant and it was fantastic! Decent price too, €20 for the below.
Drink: I enjoyed a glass of white wine.
Starters: Bread, olive paste or pate (delicious!) & 2 butterfly garlic prawns.
Main: Sea Food Pasta

Room Tip: Didn't see the regular rooms, but beach view was fantastic! If you're a light sleeper, the...

I was at the Mercure at Figueira da foz three days ago on a business trip. I didn`t expect much since it is a chain hotel in a city far away from everything. But I was surprised. The room was great with fantastic views of the Atlantic ocean and the vast beach at this small city in the middle of nowhere. The service was very friendly and since we were a larger group of people also very flexible in attending our individual wishes. I had a very good stay at this place.

Spent one night in Figueira in mid September, and chose this hotel because of the reviews and location, I wasn't disappointed. Hotel is directly across the street from the beach and walking distance to restaurants, cafes, and the casino. Which is what a love in a hotel's location. The hotel itself was also very nice, got a room with a balcony facing the beach. I was given a closed in balcony, room 301, which was nice but an open balcony would've been better. Still the view of that enormous beach is amazing. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, and the hotel was very clean. I forgot my 5 month old daughter's stuffed sleeping lamb in room and when I called later that day the hotel said nothing was recovered from that room, I guess it's to be expected at any hotel :(. I was able to find a parking spot right in front of the hotel, which was free, I guess going in mid september has it's benefits, even though Figueira was pretty dead at the time. This was my first time in Figueira da Foz, and only spent one night, but I believe I picked the right hotel. You cross the street and your on the sand, getting to the water isn't as easy(did I mention the beach is huge?), and your a short walk from the food and booze. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 301, it was a closed balcony, I think all balcony's on that side are closed, 401...

All comes down to expectation, and this is a good little 4 star hotel by the beach. It's good value for money, and the staff are very helpful There's wifi included and a clean comfortable room.

It's a bit old, so expect some wear and tear. There's a automatic shoe shine machine on the first floor - old school!

I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Go for the beach view as opposed to the back of the building, which faces air condition vents and ot...

I usually prefer smaller hotels in seaside towns but I reckons this is the best place to stay in Figueira da Foz. The long rows of balconies facing the large beach may not look beautiful from outside but once you are in your room you can appreciate a wide ocean view. The balconies are large and also get you some privacy, ideal for a drink looking at the sunset. The rooms are comfortable and large as you expect from a 4 star hotel of this kind.

The staff is competent and polite, with several people behind the reception desk, we didn't have to wait despite other 2 couples were already checking in when we arrived.

The shared areas are large and elegantly decorated, the breakfast is good and served in a large lounge.

Room Tip: Rooms with the balcony

I enjoyed my one night stay here. The hotel is within walking distance of the beach (i.e. across the road from it). There is unpaid public parking right outside the hotel and paid public parking on the opposite side, the side by the beach. Trying to find a spot in the unpaid public parking in the summer time is next to impossible unless you happen to be very lucky. However, there are plenty of spots on the paid side. The hotel does not have parking.

The rooms are clean and tidy and look like they have been newly furbished. The hallways are out of date. Rooms that have an ocean view also include a balcony – it’s nice to sit out and watch the sunset. Complimentary and fast wi-fi that’s easy to access everywhere within the hotel was much appreciated.

The hotel breakfast was good as it offered plenty of choice although some of the hot items had a rather unappetizing appearance.

The actual main town is about a 30 min walk away and you have to venture inwards to get away from all the tourist shops. I stumbled upon a few excellent bakeries, cafes and small shops by veering into the small streets. I even stumbled upon a market – though I have seen much nicer markets in many other cities.

Aside from the beach, there wasn’t much else to this town. A day or two here is sufficient
