“Not bad, not good either”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

I stayed here for 3 nights with my family in the winter. The hotel is very aged, the rooms look a lot better in the pictures, but in reality they feel dated. The room isn't well illuminated - forget about reading before bed. Besides what may seem from looking at their website, there isn't much to do there besides eating and drinking. There's not much around the hotel too, if you want to see anything you'll absolutely need a car. We dined in the hotel restaurant one night, wasn't very impressed by the food. Also, breakfast didn't have many options. TV in the room is very small, too. Overall the cost-benefit is bad - I found the hotel too expensive for the quality it offered. I wouldn't book it again - there are better hotels that are located further up the mountain, check those out before booking this one.

Located in the Serra da Estrela mountain range this hotel is advertised as a "Hotel de Charme", but I would rather describe it as a bland mixture of modern and traditional mountain hotel with an aged look and very small rooms.
The toilet is ok and looks modern enough but the rest of the room is so small there's hardly any space for luggage or to keep your clothes organised.
Common areas are scarce and there's not much to do except drink or eat. The restaurant is a good choice for dinner since there is not real alternative nearby, but be prepared to pay a high bill. Food is well made but the menu is a bit short if you stay over 4 nights.
In the end this hotel is just too expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view to the valley and choose the biggest one available.

It was a very windy night but that never disturbed us. The fact pointed by other Tripadvisor members that the hotel isn't children friendly is a good thing for us as we are sick and tired of having problems with noisy children in other hotels nearby like the famous H2O...
I'll be back soon!

Room Tip: All rooms have great views over the mountain and valleys.

Covilha is a nice city to visit, is to cheap to eat and drink. You must go to the Amote.Covilha and the restaurant of the hotel carquejais, and you have many restaurants in the centre. The centre is very bucolic, is a nice place to go at night, not dangerous. The hotel is sensual and very romantic place, the rooms are normaly red and big size beds! you must go to the pool of the hotel, visit the town of Manteigas and go to the sky resort...

Room Tip: rooms with a window in front of the pool, very ample and good see

Too expensive for the quality offered - reality quite different from the internet site photos.
Small rooms, regular food breakfast with bad service, no help with the lugage, even when arriving at night with 2 small children and paying for each of the 2 rooms more than it would have been at a 5 stars hotel in Oporto.
Better to stay at a hotel further away from the mountain and then travel there. Only the view deserves to be positively apointed.

I've been there with my husband and two small kids, 2 and 4 years old just for one night, so there's not much I can say. It's a lovely Hotel, great location, nice views, a bit expensive in relation quality/price.
The one thing I didn´t like was, since this is a Hotel with lots of families with children, it should be more child friendly particularly concerning the meals. The dinner was buffet with only 3 choices, none of them very suitable for young children. Breakfast was very good. The service and cleanliness spotless!.
