....you should go and visit the library. It is astonishing to see what centuries ago already has been done. Unfortunately the surrounding is not in really good shape, but the library is worth while to visit.

Second visit -- better than the first. So much history. Be sure to see all of the buildings on the tour.

One can enjoy the facades and plazas, but also be sure to buy a combo ticket for the old library, lecture halls, and chapel. Each is unique and well worth the entry fee.

You need to walk and visit the inside!! Then go down the streets to Sé Velha. After just go down again the Arc of Almedia ;)

Although April it was 28 degrees the day we visited Coimbra, being inland this seems to be the 'norm' as it was cooler by the coast. The University is very interesting and seeing students still using the very old lecture rooms was unusual. The very old seating and decoration combined with computers and whiteboards!! Lots of different areas to visit and use of the student cafe which had very reasonable food and drink. Takes about 2 hours to do properly.
