“Beautiful classic interior”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

The library is very impressive with three halls sporting bookshelves in two tiers. I do not believe the leatherbound volumes here are used often; but they can build the bridge between ancient and modern science

“Universidade de Coimbra”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

The University of Coimbra is famous by the fact that here is perhaps one of the oldest libraries not only in Europe but in the world with a huge collection of ancient manuscripts of the 16th century. The founding year of the library is 1728, now is a kind of museum, the entrance to which is about three euros.
Coimbra. University. Interestingly, the study building a legal fakultea connected with the library gallery, which the students called the Latin way. This name is due to the feature of the Faculty of Law where all classes are conducted in Latin. For more information about the library - http://djanga.ru Theology, medicine and law, these three disciplines taught here since the founding of the University. It was not until the mid-eighteenth century, when the ubiquitous Marquis de Pombal decided to reform the education system in the country.
That he is obliged by the University of the eight faculties. The three oldest, medical, legal and humanitarian, he added, pharmaceutical, scientific, economic, psychological, and sports. The number of students reached twenty thousand, it is noteworthy that the doors of the University are open to foreign students for a fee. Price for one year of study is 800 euros.
Student of the Republic, was the name of student accommodation in the 13th century, when they were built by the order of the founder of the University of Coimbra in the nearby area. Since then, students live by the laws of the Republic of democracy, where every member of the fraternity can take part in the management of the common house, and all the important decisions are taken only after the general election.

“Pretty Library, but the rest of the Campus Tour is worth checking out”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

I liked touring the Library. I'd say it's a must do when in Coimbra. But, it's not just about the Library, the rest of the college campus included in the tour ticket is beautiful and worth checking out. We especially liked the chapel with the old organ dating back to the 1700's. There is also an amazing view of the college square / courtyard if you walk to the back outside balcony on the floor that overlooks the auditorium. Overall, the Library is very pretty, but not nearly as impressive as the Trinity College Library in Dublin, which I just recently visited as well. But hey, if you are in Coimbra (which is well worth a visit if driving around northern Portugal), than this Library must be seen.

Enjoy!

“Great historic venue”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Well worth a look, very historic but not exactly as I thought it would be. The atmosphere around the university is lively during term time but otherwise virtually dead when students are off.
