Description: At the heart of the uptown of Coimbra, in front of the old cathedral and 50 meters away from the University (the oldest university in the country and one of the world’s oldest, founded March 1, 1290 by King D. Dinis), you can find the restaurant o Trovador, since 1987. It is a mandatory stop for all Portuguese or foreign visitors who appreciate the excellence of the Portuguese Cuisine and the sound of guitars and voices of prestigious musicians of “Fado de Coimbra”. The story of O Trovador is, all of it, filled with many other stories, on which, every day, is added another chapter. “Those who enter in O Trovador enter in their home.”

Right by the Se Velha, this restaurant makes for a convenient stop for lunch. The prices were reasonable, the portions surprisingly big and the food delicious. Good house wine too!

The service was fantastic. The room was full and decoration was related with the city. The bass and ribs were very good. It was the best restaurant where we ate in Portugal

I've eaten at this restaurant everytime I'm in Coimbra. The service is very friendly and helpful.
The food is traditional Portuguese with a flair and very tasty. Good selection of wines and beer.
The location is in the old plaza next to the Sa (catheral) . The only disadvantage to this place
is location, If you do not enjoy walking up hill or down then pick up a taxi below . Advantages, the area is very good for shopping with many small traditional craft and Souvenir shops, it's also located right next to the oldest church in coimbra(Sa).

This restaurant was closed when we arrived at the hotel in the same square so did not even know it was there. When we discovered it we were mightily impressed. The food was great, the helpings huge and the prices very reasonable. The staff were very helpful - being faced with an unannounced party of 9 all speaking different languages did not faze them at all. They were extremely friendly and helpful. Other diners in the restaurant helped us choose our food which was a boon.

Read about Trovador and was not disappointed. Very good service and waiter recommended the Dorado. This was served hot and grilled perfectly. The whole meal for my wife and I was just €32 which included a soup (served hot as well - perfect for a wet day in Coimbra) and a big bottle of water. Great value!
