“Unforgettable experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2010

It's not often that you get the chance to live in a former royal residence - and being treated like a royal person, too! Beautiful unique place, rooms look like you really live in a palace. Lovely garden, quiet and cosy surroundings, styligh, light and spacious breakfast room... Honestly, this is truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to.
If you happen to be in Coimbra, make sure you spend here at least one night. I would even say - this hotel is worth going to Coimbra!

Stayed here one night only. My room was in the old building, right next to the main entrance, and the decoration was old style but beautiful, a large comfortable bed, a good bathroom. The best about this hotel is the garden. The spa in the new building has a very small swimming pool, enough for a relax.
The restaurant is good, liked the food, but some details of service could be improved.
This is the best hotel in Coimbra and the only one I'll stay in the future if I return. However, next time I'll ask for a room in the spa building because I like modern decoration and because, in my room, I could hear noise from the room above mine, which was not good at all in the morning

Lovely hotel with an excellent restaurant. Very spacious rooms even those in the garden. The location is ok, but being on the south side of the river sometimes can be a small problem particularly if it is raining as it is a 20 minute walk to the majority of the attractions and restaurants. Parking is difficult in Coimbra.

Das Lagrimas has some really beautiful grounds, charming rooms and a staff that falls all over itself being helpful. It is a bit on the pricey side, but staying there was a deliberate splurge. The room was spotless, comfortable and quiet. There is ample parking. The breakfast included a wide variety of items, such as dried ham, white asparagus, rather good bread and for those who wanted it, an open bottle of some sort of sparkling wine. The one thing that did not work out too well was dinner. The restaurant was described as being a Michelin one star. Maybe, but my wife and I both ordered a special veal stew that neither looked like or tasted like veal. When I raided an eyebrow about this the plates were removed and the menu presented. The duck breast that followed was as good as any I have had. The wine list is extensive and some old bottles of red wine are bargains. There is a lovely pool and a spa.

We stayed at Lagrimas for 2 nights, in the SPA part of the hotel. The other part is porbably more romantic. However, we had a big room, with our own balcony. All modern facilities at hand.

The pool are was nice, especially since temperatures were extremely high in July. Come early to get some shade!

Decent breakfast (including champagne), many things to chose from (but stay away from the salmon). Nice outdoor area for lunch.

We ate in their Michelin restuarant; unfortunately that turned out to be a bit of a disappointment (boring food, no exiting flavours, and very poor-value wine menu).

15 min walk to city center; take a cab!

My Wife and I stayed 3 nights in this hotel.
From the gate to the entrance of the residence is a beautifulngarden with flowers covering the road. there are 3 buildings with 3 types of rooms in the hotel: the castle with traditional rooms (19 th century style with wood flooring, antique furnitures etc), an old building with all rooms surrounding an atrium with modern interior, and a modern building overlokimg the pool.
we stayed in the old building with a garden view and a direct access to the garden. the room was very beautiful, the garden was gorgeous.
despite the relatively small number of rooms (around 50), there were lots of facilities and services: a large pool surrounded by a beautiful garden and a pool bar, a spa, an indoor pool (although closed when we were there ), a gym with a solarium, a lounge with free wifi internet and free soft drinks and free alcohol, an italian restaurant that served breakfast and lunch by the pool, a one star Michelin restaurant , a golf practice and a golf. the hotel is surrounded by a garden and a forest that is a historical landmark.
however, the price was really reasonable although during the high season (we paid EUR 114 per night).
If you plan to stay in the old building (not the castle), we would definitely recommend to book a gardebn view as the pool view is actually a view onof the entrance of the pool, not the pool istelf.

a large poll surro
