“Fabulous Respite”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

After the drive from Porto we arrived too late for lunch and this is a great spot that serves food all day long. Don’t wait for a table outside, go in to see the interior, which still retains the architecture from the adjoining church. The vaulted ceiling and wooden panels are wonderful and the staff provides table service. Very fast and friendly waiters will serve simple and delicious sandwiches. Go for the ‘toasted’, it’s like a Panini, warm with melted cheese and very good.

We stopped here again after a long afternoon for a drink and saw their notice for a Fado show on Saturday evenings at 10:00. (FYI; in Coimbra, Fado is only preformed by male singers; I learned that on this trip). After dinner we returned to Café Santa Cruz to see the Fado performance, and even though we do not understand Portuguese we really enjoyed the music, what a great end to a day.

“Praiseworthy.”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Experience great toasted sandwiches, super friendly service and relax. Historic location as the University, Baixa and other places of interest are within walking distance. Outside seating to soak in the atmosphere. This restaurant has wi-fi connection.

“Great cafe for free fado”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Beautiful cafe right next to the Santa Cruz church. They often have free fado presentations in the evening. We went there twice and loved it. It may be slightly overpriced, but for free fado, it's definitely worth it! Come on time as the place can be filled up. Excellent service.

“Stunning building”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We found ourselves inside accidentally courtesy of a heavy downpour ! Decided to duck in to escape the rain and wasn't expecting the beautiful interior we found ourselves in. As it wasn't long since we had eaten breakfast we only had coffee which was hot and flavoursome and served efficiently. Worth a visit.

“Great atmosphere”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Can't comment on food as we didn't eat, but great atmosphere and wonderful setting for fado.
The building was originally part of the church next door, and the vaulted ceiling makes for great acoustics. A special place
