Villa Pedra Natural Houses
Ranked #4 of 33 Coimbra B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Villa Pedra is a peaceful haven, formerly a ruined village it has been lovingly rebuilt by the owners and we were lucky enough to be the only guests there during our stay. We stayed in the Cherry house which is beautifully furnished and had stunning views of the valley below and the mountains in the distance from our balcony. There is also a private garden for the house which we didn't really use with it being November and a little too cold. Breakfast was good, delivered every day in the form of fresh bread and a selection of cooked meats, cheeses and jams and there was also a nespresso machine. Location wise it is very quiet, situated on the edge of a tiny village but we found that it was quite convenient to drive to the ruins at Conimbriga and the village of Lousa. We had a very enjoyable stay and would certainly come back.

Ville Pedra is for various reasons just like paradise. First, it is beautifully set i the "middle of nowhere". But the fresh and healthy air, the quietness, the large and well designed houses, the friendly owners Victor and Manuel, the daily fresh baked bread,… You really think you are in paradise.
If you want a peaceful and unforgettable vacation or even concentrated workshop meeting: you have to stay in Villa Pedra.

Besides the place is clean, the beds are really comfortable, its entirely spacious, …

This place is close to paradise!

Room Tip: Any, don't worry. The are all great.

We look everywhere to find somewhere in the middle of nowhere. First the wild east of Cambodia and this year, through chance and serendipity, we found ourselves in a spot I wish that I wasn't compelled to advertise, because it is so fragile, so intimate and so heart warming. You will have to drive a few hours from Lisbon to find the place, drive ten clicks to reach the turnoff, and then, once you get out of your car and drink in the air, the trees, the wandering goats and the amazing home you are given, you will indeed realize that the journey was worth it. It is a place where time stands still---3pm feels like 10am, a week feels like a day. And maybe you will be able to catch a glance a glance of your loved one, perched in the garden holding a glass of wine, and know you have given her something priceless, a place of happiness on earth. It is not just the fact that Victor and Manuel have created a astoundingly unique environment, or that the fresh bread which arrives every morning in a mini Portuguese colored sack, or that your fridge is stocked daily with delectable food and preserves, it is the feeling that you are finally and truly in touch with yourself and bound in relaxation and endless joy with your loved one. You may reserve a night or two like us, but wind up staying much longer. It is now our home away from home. Forever.

Beautiful and Amazing villas.
Just didn't expect something so exquisite.
Gorgeously furnished. So clean and well appointed.
We felt so at home sitting on the terrace overlooking our private garden, sipping red wine and listening to Leonard Cohen.
Beautiful deep bath for two.
Delicious wine and food, fresh bread delivered to our door for breakfast. Yum, yum, yum.
Such a romantic experience.
We wish we could have stayed longer.
Thanks so much to Victor and Manuel.

Our week at Villa Pedra ranks as one of my best holidays ever. Victor's and Manuel's hospitality was boundless and thoughtful, the houses beautifully designed and extremely comfortable and the fresh food that was delivered to one's door every day (not to mention the walnut and fig trees, tomato plants and grapes vines that filled the extensive grounds of the Villa) was a delightful surprise. Oh, and the pool was gorgeous.

There is something special and brilliant about this place. I've stayed at plenty of places that were beautiful, comfortable and luxurious, but nothing quite like this. You basically feel like you are house sitting for your super cool, rich, arty friends in their summer bungalow. There are lots of little details that they get just right - the best sheets, mattresses, towels, fresh bread delivery every morning, interesting and original artwork everywhere. It's really a total experience and perfect for a relaxing vacation.

It's also well located for day trips in the area. We got to the Coinbraga ruins one day and the beach the next.

Finally, please do try the local restaurant ("the snail") for a large lunch or dinner. The food is very good and the prices are outrageously low.

Villa Pedra is a fantastic concept realised with great taste and care, not only for the considerable benefit of the lucky guests but also for the locale and its residents.

The private accommodation and the public areas are quite wonderful and show many delicate, artistic touches that Victor and Manuel have so successfully created and incorporated.

All of this provides each guest with a sense of having been cared for on a personal level as well as having shared a memorable experience with other guests.

The attention to detail and the overwhelming sense of warmth and consideration from Victor, Manuel and each of their staff makes Villa Pedra a very special place that needs to be visited more than once – not least to take further pleasure from the many delights in this area of Portugal.
