After several hours of driving, you would expect that any hotel would be an oasis in the dessert. Not so for Hotel Moliciera, at least not initially. Confusion surrounds the two addresses of this hotel, and while it was explained eventually by the staff, I still don't get it. Rua Barbosa de Magalhaes was given by our booking agent, but it does not exist in TomTom. Rua Joao Mendonca does exist in TomTom, but this placed us on the wrong side of the canal. Thankfully, we had a second GPS, and eventually found the correct street only to be confronted by massive parking problems. The canal and its boats, opposite the hotel, are a popular tourist attraction as evidenced by several tourist buses disgorging their cargo outside the hotel. Eventually, a local guided us into a parking spot opposite the hotel, for a fee of course. However, this position was metred parking, but thankfully it was a Sunday. After this our troubles ceased, and this hotel proved truly worthy of its Tripadvisor ranking. The staff fed the parking meter the next day until they could move the car into one of their own dedicated positions outside the hotel. They did this for several guests with similar parking difficulties. It was an unusual site to see a staff member with car keys in one hand and coins in the other go out at regular intervals to feed the machine. And, the hotel did not charge for this service. If driving, try and get there either very early or very late to avoid the tourist congestion. The staff are very friendly, speak English fluently, and could not be more helpful with our stay, including a complimentary drink on arrival. The hotel is very modern, the rooms quiet and comfortable. A great night's sleep. There is no restaurant, but ask the staff to recommend one. Breakfast is exceptional. Overall, despite our difficulties with directions and parking, we would place this hotel as one of our great stays in Europe. If we are ever this way again, it would definitely be on our list.
