Stayed here one week in July. Double room on top floor
Great view, great location, frendly staff, good food, clean.
Many good resturants on the marina, right outside the hotel.
The city has a nice chill atmosphere to it. You don't get the feeling of an tourist place.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor. Recon it is a bit noisy on the lower floors. The main road goes outside the hotel. Not so much traffic though.

This hotel was our first 4 day stay on an escorted tour. The hotel is overlooking the marina and a short walk into the centre of Ponta Delgada. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we arrived on a Saturday evening and after a good buffet meal we went straight to bed as we had an early start the following morning. Drunks and barking dogs kept us awake until about 3am. There was an excellent choice at the buffet breakfast. We spent 4 nights there and a further 2 nights at the end of our 2 week tour. Their house red wine was very good.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the marina will be a lot quieter

There is no place in the Azores where it's that difficult to find a really good hotel as it is in Ponta Delgada. What is a really good hotel to me? Very professional, smiling staff. Nice, spacious and comfortable rooms with good insonorisation. Personalized service throughout. Good, nice and quiet location with nice views.
Marina Atlantico has a very nice, spacious and modern lobby. The staff at the front desk is efficient. However, as soon as you get out of the elevator you realize that it is not more than a medium class hotel frequented by huge groups, mostly from northern European countries. To me for sure it is not a first class property. Carpets are worn out. The rooms are very small, the bed seems old and you get a feeling that 2'500 other guests were sleeping in it before you. There is everything one needs, but not more - nice bathroom, cupboard with enough hangers, safety deposit box, minibar and an old bulky television. (A Bensaude hotel which doesn't even offer flat screen tv? Poor! We are in 2013...). Another ridiculous detail is that they make you pay 20€ for 3 days internet use in the room (free around the lobby). Most hotels in the Azores offer it for free also in the rooms. Many hotels in the city are more charming than this one (I am talking about Talisman or Colegio), but they don't offer nice views. Marina Atlantico can satisfy you with 180 degrees sea view, but the road in front of the hotel is very heavily trafficated. Noise all day long, and therefore it is opposite of a hotel where you can relax. Till 1 in the night there are thousands of cars and loud motor bikes passing by, and at 5.30 in the morning the noise starts again.
Room service: the menu is very limited, and except some burgers, club sandwich and ONE soup there is not much to choose. You are looking onto the ocean, but there is not one single menu to be found with fish. Who the hell created this room service menu? I was surprised when my order arrived. Presentation was lovely and neat, the young guy had a smile in his face (otherwise you rarely see smiling staff in here), the quality of food satisfied me. The restaurant downstairs looks nice. Food is ok. The staff could be much friendlier.
I can not say anything really bad about this hotel (except the tremendous noise from the road), but it is not a place where I felt very much at ease. It lacks of character, it lacks of personalized service, it lacks of charm. It is just a big, normal hotel that could be anywhere in the world.
Knowing all the Azorean islands very well, I must say that the biggest mistake one can commit is to visit just São Miguél (unfortunately many Germans and Scandinavians do so). It's the main island, yes. And it's by far the biggest island of the nine. It has by far the best infrastructure, the highest number of restaurants, bars, entertainment, shopping facilities etc. But it's for sure not the island with the friendliest population and the most charming people. Life here is quick, you are treated quite impersonally, and there is no Azorean Spirit feeling in the air.
Plan to visit the eastern half of the island in 1 or 2 days (Furnas, Nordeste), and dedicate one day for Sete Cidades and the western half. Then leave and head for Terceira. Angra do Heroísmo is uncomparably more beautiful. It's a gem! People are much nicer there, much friendlier. Then visit Pico which is breathtakingly beautiful and quiet. It's another world, and you will forget about São Miguél which is too densely populated, too loud and....not one of the most sympathetic places around.

Room Tip: A good room to me is also a quiet room. You can not get it here, because right in front of the building is a heavily trafficated road. If you love quiet places you will suffer and want to move out...

The hotel is very central and easy to reach. The check in was fast, the staff super friendly. The room was spacious, had a balcony with a beautiful view of the harbour. The bed was very small and the blanketts are old and strange. Everything else okay. The breakfast was okay, some local products, but very bad or no service. 4 stars??? Across the hotel you find a lot of nice restaurants where you can have really good food. Better eat there than in the hotel.
