“Fantastic week with family and friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

We stayed at the Hotel do Colegio as a special offer during October half term with our friends. We had 3 rooms next to each other, our children are 16 and 12 and they had a room to themselves which was a plus. We had emailed the hotel prior to our stay to request rooms and for further information and their responses were prompt and friendly. The rooms were of a very good standard and size and very comfortable. The only slight negative (and I mean slight) was that the rooms were quite dark but that is mostly down to the design of the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly but not over bearing, courteous and helpful. Breakfast was of a good standard with plenty of choice; it is advertised as a continental breakfast but also includes bacon and eggs. The pool is stated as heated - but not in October! This didn't matter as we were out exploring most of the time. The location of the hotel is very central and close to all the bars, restaurants and attractions of the very pleasant town of Ponta Delgada. We had a most enjoyable stay - Obrigada!

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool side are larger and quieter

I got a good offer, so definitely got value for money here. Rooms are nice and renovated, service is good and friendly and the breakfast restaurant is better than average in this region.

Though not at the waterfront this hotel is a few minutes from the central part of town.

We spent a week at this hotel in mid-October. It is set in the old town, surrounded by narrow cobbled streets and very centrally located. The building is attractive, with many period features and the decor is very pleasing.
The rooms are large, carpetted and well-appointed, but views are very limited. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is fine with plenty of towels, shower, bath, bidet, hair-drier etc.
The staff were always helpful, in reception (we changed our room without any fuss), in the restaurant and around the bedrooms. One girl dried our swimming costumes for us and returned them within the hour.
The gym is a waste of time and the machines are worn out. The swimming pool is not heated and not really welcoming, set where it is surrounded by high walls, and the sauna was broken. But the steam room was fine.
Breakfast was ok, but never exciting, with quite a limited buffet. We didn't use the restaurant because it felt so quiet. The lounges and bar were good with plenty of comfortable chairs.
We enjoyed our stay and found the ambience exactly to our taste.

Room Tip: The local streets can be noisy because of the cobbles and the narrowness of the streets. Either go...

Stayed at the Colegio for 4 nights. The room was in need of updating. The AC leaked, and I noticed a number of water stains on the carpet throughout the hotel. I guess they have some plumbing issues. The room and bath were clean. The bed was very hard. The hotel is quiet and is within walking distance of everything in the city. The hotel has and underground garage which is very safe. The staff was great they helped to plan our travels. At one time the hotel was a 4-star but not any more, it probably doesn't rate more than 3 now. The website shows a pool, but it isn't cleaned. They do have a nice steam room. If you want eggs and bacon for breakfast you need to be one of the first 10 or so guest, they don't restock those items.

Room Tip: Ask to see room, some rooms have a small balcony.

Stayed four nights. Staff were extremely polite and helpful. Beds were quite hard but room was clean and bathroom was good. Great location, quiet road but easy to get everywhere.

Stayed at the Hotel do Colegio in September 2011. Our room, whilst large, was definitely in need of an update. Although there was a little patio with a small garden, our outlook was a brick wall. Despite that, it was very clean and everyone was very helpful. We ate in the restaurant for dinner twice during our stay and the food was very good. It's in a good location for getting out and about in Ponta Delgada.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first.

Recently returned from a short stay at the Hotel do Colegio. The pro's to staying at this lodging include the location, well-trained staff and the lack of anything better in the area. Our room was rather small, compared to that of another couple with whom we were traveling. Given the disparity in size for the same price, I would suggest asking to see the rooms prior to settling in. The hotel is definitely in need of updating - but is clean and well maintained. Breakfast, which was included in the rate, was more than adequate. Although we did not have lunch or diner at the hotel restaurant, I've been told by friends that the food is excellent. Tip: We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at "Rapotacho", which was merely a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
