“An Awesome Experience!”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Firstly, we didn't know what to expect of the Azores, it was just the last port of call on a world cruise on P&O Arcadia. We were travelling with another couple from Australia, and as we could have 6 in our van, we finally convinced an English couple to join us. Some were getting off the ship and were "too tight" to pay for a tour, they were just going to wander around the town, and I can say that anyone who didn't venture beyond the town totally missed out. Wow, were we amazed and impressed!! It quickly became one of our favourite ports of call, and we haven't stopped talking about it. Clean, green, rugged, no graffitti---it was like one big lovingly cared for garden. What made this port even more special, was our awesome and charming tour guide, Rui Medeiros. Nothing was too difficult for Rui. He patiently showed us every wonderful area his amazing island, took us to a fantastic "out of the way" bakery, provided a knowledgeable tour of a tea plantation, and stopped by a corner pub to sample the local beer. If you visit Ponta Delgada...and you should...book a tour with Rui Medeiros! He is a brilliant tour guide, and the tour is worth every penny!

“A trip around Sao Miguel”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Called into Ponta Delgada on a cruise back to Southampton. We didn't want to use the normal cruise ship tours as they are too expensive and too restrictive so we teamed up with another couple and "did our own thing". Luckily for us we picked on one of Rui Medeiros drivers who was touting for business just outside the cruise terminal hall. Our drivers name was Francisco and he gave us an excellant tour for about five hours. He took us to the normal tour stops and also took us to places where the coaches don't stop at. There were stops at waterfalls where we had to walk a little way up a track and a stop at the roadside where there was fresh spring water coming out of pipes in the wall. We had a stop for lunch and were told to take as long as we wanted while he waited for us. all through the tour he gave us a running commentry in perfect English complete with some humour. I don't know if all of Rui's guides are as good as Francisco but I would certainly recommend the company and Francisco in particular.

“A fabulous day”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

We visited the Azores on a cruise at the end of March 2013.Having read good reviews of Rui we had previously booked a tour with him to go to Fire Lake.On the day the weather was overcast with low cloud. Rui met us of the ship and suggested that we may be better to go to Furnes Valley instead,as he thought their was a better chance of some good weather. The cloud lifted and we had a beautiful sunny day. Rui loves his job and it shows and at the end of the tour you feel you have made a new friend.Nothing is to much trouble for him,He knows all the interesting places but makes sure he caters for your interests.
On our visit Rui had just taken delivery of Mercedes SUV and to celebrate he had brought along some wine and cheese,we had a picnic at a wonderful viewing area.
We heard later that the tours to Fire Lake had been shrouded in mist all day.Obviously Rui cant always change the weather but I am sure he will make the most any situation. Thanks a lot Rui
this was the best tour we have on. Fran and Gerry

“PRIVATE TOUR”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Four of us left our cruise ship in the port of Ponta Delgada in April 2013, in search of a private hire to see part of the island. Our driver, Francisco, was excellent, and can be found via www.vivazores.com under taxi RM. Fluent English was spoken throughout as we toured the north coast and central areas of the island visiting volcanic areas, forest areas, off the beaten track, areas where pineapple are grown, a local liquor supplier, an area where tea is grown and processed and then took us to a small town where we enjoyed local bread and cheeses with Portugese wine. The glorious scenery was enhanced by warm sunshine along the very winding roads. Excellent value for money, particularly suitable for those who prefer not to use the cruise ship expensive tours.

“Excellent tour around the island with a great guide”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We booked a tour for 5 people since we only had one day to see the island. Rui brought us everywhere and we got a great experience of the island. The guide know the English language very well and knows a lot about the island and history. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the island. You will definitely not regret it. Very professional and convenient.
