In addition to great views of the island, the hunt for whales was excellent. The company has various lookout points that insure some whales are frolicking before you leave the island. The zodiac boats were a bit jarring and uncomfortable like riding a horse across the ocean, but great vantage point to see the whales.
It was exciting, Miranda (our marine biologist) and Matt (our back up) were very knowledgeable and gave us background information on the whales we were seeing.
We thought it was one kind of whale when we started, then realized it was the first Blue Whale of the migratory season! What luck?!
So big, so majestic, such a strong blow of water, such large 'footprints so we could chase them across the water. We were a fair way out from land, but I think the excitement of our expert team and my fellow whale watchers was contagious.

On another note, Futurismo the tour and guided land side, has an amazing, simply amazing tour guide for the islands named Irene. She was super knowledgeable about the topography, natural features, politics, history, crops, cows, tea, local delicacies, etc. I have never had a guide that was fluent in everything including island folklore and funny. 'Arozean Science' is my favorite.

Everything about this operation is the way it should be. No use of ecco- signals, a great sense of respect for both the history and the individual animals. The captain was wonderful, the boat was great and "on the water-surface"-- and the marine biologist/scientist we were guided by was empathic, enthusiastic and knowledgable-- we learned much from her!

We saw four male sperm-wales and many jumping, happy dolphins up close.

To partake in even just a moment of these giant creatures´ worlds gave me at least, a very deep sense of bliss, calm and serenety--.

Of all things sought and seen in the Azores, the watching (with my sister) in the Futurismo boat was by far the best, an almost indescribable experience. Highly recommended to everyone!

We took the zodiac boat for the whale and dolphin watching. The trip was bumpy but was thrilling to admire the wild dolphins. We were able to spot 3 different varieties of dolphins, a turtle but had a bad luck with the whales as were not able to see any of them, that was bit disappointing. The guides were able to explain about the different dolphins and were informative about the marine animals. Altogether it was a nice experience.

My family and I did the Full Day with Whale Watching in the morning then visiting Ilheu Vila Franca Campo. What a great day it was. Started with a quick morning chat to get you prepared for the day. The tour guides spoke English and Spanish. We were on the fiber glass boat which was safe but very small. If you don't feel comfortable being on the water in a tiny boat then I would book early and make sure you mention that you to be on the other boats (they have options in their fleet). They guarantee you will see either a whale or dolphin on your tour if you don't see any or either you will get your money back. I was fortunate to see both and being on the fiber glass boat I feel that we were able to get really close to the animals (very cool). Lunch time was in Vila Franca Campo (delicious and right on the water). Next we took another boat to get to the Ilheu. They gave us lots of time there to explore, swim, tan, snorkel. They were very professional and very educated when it can to discussing any creatures we saw in the ocean. I highly recommend doing this tour with them.

Good safe boat but we had a strong onshore wind which made it difficult to find anything in the swell. Experienced skipper made it good safe fun , we saw a lot of dolphins , in fact it was almost like swimming with them at the bow where we were as it was a little wet !! Would recommend to anyone but try a calmer day for a chance of seeing whales.
