This was the very first place we ate in the Azores. Stopped in for lunch and the wait staff was SO friendly. Spoke great English and took care of the two tired Americans. Two great cold beers came right out and we were happy. Overall the fish was so so, we had much better during the rest of our trip. The cheese was not our favorite. This was a good place to sample traditional food. It is conveniently located. There are many other good finds in Ponta Delgada.

Had dinner at the Nacional the last night of our trip and wished we had tried it earlier in the trip - we would have likely returned. Service was really great, waiter spoke excellent english and other languages - he was very pleasant, prompt and made sure we were waited on (!).

Food was very good - we both had fish (peixe) - both the sea bass and salmon where well prepared (all fish in Sao Miguel had the complete complement of bones left for you to deal with). Complementary bread, cheese and oil were provided and a big iced mug for the beer (even though the med size was ordered) we some unexpected highlights.

The decor is sort of early 1900ish with old pictures of island history on the walls - the birch paneling seemed to be a 1960 era throwback, but its pleasant enough...

Good food, atmosphere and it's open for lunch! What else can a traveller want? :)

The sword fish was delicious and the goat cheese one of the best I've had!

Excellent food with an excellent service. Generous portions at a reasonable price. I recommend the olives and the Sao Jorge cheese as appetizers, and then a grilled fish. I loved the bocanegras or the alfonsiños. You can finish with a queijada as dessert (a kind of mini almond cake)
