Based on previous trip advisor reviews we visited this restaurant for a taste of something different.
On first impressions it seems to be nothing more than the ground floor of a terraced house tucked away up a side street with six tables of varying size. On closer inspection you start to notice the handpainted images on the walls and the interesting bric-a-brac displayed on shelfs and in glass-fronted cupboards.
Not being vegetarians we were keen to see what the restaurant could offer. We were not disappointed. Although the menu was limited to about 6 starters and 6 main courses they all sounded and looked wonderful. The baby tomatoes, feta cheese and fresh basil starter, followed by stuffed aubergines was excellent, as was the good selection of house wines.
There was a definite buzz of friendly conversation in the restaurant and I could identify at least 4 different languages being spoken by customers and the staff seemed able to easily communicate to us all.
Because of the good food and evident hard work and passion of the kitchen staff and waitresses we quickly booked again for a couple of nights later. I'm so glad we did because yet again the food was excellent and yet again the restaurant was full, deservedly so.
We decided to eat here based on trip advisor reviews and also because we enjoy vegetarian food.
We were lucky to get the last table on a Monday night, as the restaurant was almost full. Therefore we would strongly recommend booking in advance, as people had to be turned away after us. It is tucked away down a little back street in the town centre.
The restaurant is small and just like somebody's house. It is rustic, with various old and retro items dotted around. The atmosphere was very cosy and there was a mixture of couples and groups of friends (mainly locals) eating there. It had a buzzing and vibrant atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly and spoke English - there was also an English menu.
We highly recommend the cheese fondu as a starter - it comes served in a toasted bread loaf with the middle cut out., Ideal for sharing - the flavour was absolutely delicious.
All of the dishes are homemade and have fresh salad/vegetables and fresh ingredients with lovely flavours. The portion sizes seemed generous too. I recommend the mushroom and fresh mint risotto which had a fantastic flavour. The desserts were equally to die for, especially the chocolate cake!
We loved it so much we booked that night to return on our last night. Our return experience was equally as good as the first. Once again the restaurant was fully booked out.
We found most of the other restaurants in Ponta Delgada very touristy and the food either bland or over salted, with the same limited range of dishes on offer. This was perfect - an absolute gem of a place whether you are vegetarian or not.
Veggies and non-veggies alike will LOVE this hip spot. The staff were so warm and friendly and the food was delish. Great wine recommendations and overall great vibe and scene. Highly recommended!
We were looked after very well – even though we were a big group of 20.
Very highly recommended - not just for vegetarians
