We really enjoyed our stay at Quinta do Mar. The surroundings were lovely and peaceful, with well-kept garden areas and plenty of loungers and sunbathing areas. The pool looked great although unfortunately it wasn't really warm enough to swim. Our room was spacious with an exceptionally comfortable and large bed and nicely-appointed bathroom with great shower. Gilda did a superb job of keeping our room immaculately clean. Breakfasts by Chris were always really delicious and very varied, with a different cooked option every day including pancakes, the most amazing scrambled eggs, porridge, breakfast burritos etc. The hosting in general was friendly without being overbearing. Location-wise, the small village of Caloura provided a great base to explore the rest of the island although you definitely need your own transport to get around. We hired a scooter rather than a car which was a fantastic way to see some of the best island viewpoints (although you need a decent windproof jacket, gloves etc as the island's very exposed). Minor niggles were that Wi-Fi didn't stretch to the rooms (we would have liked to do some local internet research etc without having to go up to the main pavilion) and tea/coffee facilities weren't in-room. It also would have been useful to have more extensive practical info in our room, like nearest ATM, supermarket etc, although there were plenty of useful leaflets with ideas of things to do and see. General tips if you're planning a visit: layers are useful as weather can be very unpredictable, whale watching with Futurismo was great, Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo are best on a clear day, if you go to Furnas for the thermal baths take old swimwear as the iron in the water can stain (just established this today having done the holiday washing!). Restaurants are generally ok, although our favourite by far was the local fish bar that you can walk to in Caloura village - delicious and brilliant value.

In this place I think everything is possible. Chris welcomed us as we arrived late at night at half past 11. He offered us a drink en called Nick to meet us. That was already so nice, you really felt welcomed.
The next four days however we experienced what it is to be spoiled by your hosts.
The breakfast was every day a king's meal with the ingredients whatever you wanted! Gilda (who helps Chris in the kitchen) serves everything with a smile and Chris makes the warm breakfast. The breakfast paviljon was also a nice place to eat your meal. We could sit inside or outside whatever the weather was.
The beds were made every morning while we were eating our breakfast and for the night they were opened with a nice mint chocolate on the pillow.
Nick does all the administrative work and if you want to reserve something he will do the job.
The last evening we stayed here, Chris made for the six guests of that moment a pizza so nice that it was a real dinner. With a nice glass of wine and a entrance bread it was completed.
We had a very pleasant stay here and will certainly come back if we visit the Acores again.
O, and if you are looking for a nice fish restaurant, please just walk down the road to the little harbour with the sea-swimpool. There is one little restaurant with outside seating only but the fresh catched fish is marvellous.
Nick and Chris and Gilda thank you very much for your good care and probably we'll see you again.

Room Tip: The rooms are big and have a high ceiling. The bathroom is huge and has a bath with a shower in it. Shampoo and conditioner are provided as are big white towels for bath or shower. For swimming pool use or sea are big green towels provided.

We loved the place. Top breakfast made by Chris. Very discrete hosts. Could have stayed there longer if we had time to do it. Nice walks around. Very tasty restaurant down the road next to the port. So calm.

Spent four nights here, booked via Archipelago Choice (suggest you contact them if looking to book a holiday in the Azores, as they are extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the islands). Warm welcome from the hosts. Good sized room with door onto balcony. Excellent breakfasts; complimentary tea/coffee; well-stocked honesty bar - sit outside with an early evening drink and enjoy the views. Would be particularly good to visit in the summer, as sadly we couldn't take advantage of the lovely pool. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Would think all the rooms would be of a similar excellent standard.
