Description: Situated on the island of s. Miguel, in the municipality/Concelho of Lagoa, next to the fish Auction, you will find the Restaurant the Drifter with a simple decor in a cosy atmosphere. Great big variety of Seafood entries and start your meal where the diversity of choice is extensive. It is a place of reference on the gastronomic area because they have daily service for lunch as well as à la carte service. Is a mandatory stopover for tasting the specialties with the Azorean sea fish varied dishes of cod, Octopus, among others. For meat lovers nothing better that created in the Azores this being made with great seasonings so you can appreciate its true flavor. Have a terrace as well as service can count on Sportv in football days. A friendly and professional staff, this informal atmosphere will no doubt provide a good meal accompanied by fine wines and delicious desserts and finished with homemade.

“great fish restaurant in lagoa”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

my girlfriend and I ate there while on vacation in lagoa.
the prices seemed a little high in comparison to other places but when our food came we knew that for this quality and good service the prices were not too high. we could choose our fish from the display of fish of the day and the starters were really good too!
all in all we paid under 50 euros for two generous fish mains, starter of octopus salad as well as the typical bread and fresh cheese of the azores, bottle of wine, mineral water and coffee.
not only the food was excellent but also the service was genuinely friendly and fast.
the restaurant is easy to find on the main street going from the pool up into the church square.
the decoration is nothing fancy just the usual fish restaurant nets and such but don't let this fool you, when you have your fish ont he table you will forget the surroundings :)

“A friendly welcoming place”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

You could not ask for better or more cheery service, and for those of us who are challenged by the Portuguese language it was in excellent English. The giants prawns we had, were some of the best I have had any were. In my view --as some one who has eaten in restaurants all over the world from 3 stars to dives- the Azoreans often over cook their fish, and this is the norm on the island , and here too the fish was a bit on the over done , which let down an otherwise good experience, and the steak was OK but not a patch on Alianca in Ponta Delgada. Still this is a useful not bad restaurant and deserves encouraging.

“Amazing Meal, one of the best on the island of Sao Miguel!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

Amazing meal here, probably my favorite meal during our ten day stay. My husband and daughter had the octopus and it was the best they had ever had, my husband was born on Sao Miguel so he know his seafood. Owner was welcoming and a great host. I had the grilled fish of the day and it came in a festive boat and was amazing. Will certainly return here on our next visit.

“Surprisingly good meal”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We took the bus from Ponta Delgada to Lagoa to spend a good half day at the swimming pools there. After our swim, we were walking back to the bus stop when we stumbled upon A Traineira Restaurante (it's a couple blocks from the waterfront). As we had worked up quite an appetite, we decided to stop in (the TA sticker in the window helped!). What a wise decision! It was just before the busy dinner period so we had the full attention of the owner (who spoke English) and his father. They were very patient and explained the features of the several types of fish caught that day. We went with their suggestions regarding both fish and wine. While waiting for the meal, we "pigged-out" on the yummy bread and cheeses. The main courses were superb and the service was attentive. The bill comes on a cute little fishing hook and even that makes you smile!.

We highly recommend this restaurant when staying in Sao Miguel.
