“Lovely--wish I could have stayed longer”

What a lovely find! This B&B starts with an unpretentious doorway, but once I stepped through it I was surrounded with a sense of comfort and relaxation. From the fish shaped lounge on the balcony--a perfect place to read, gaze out at the water or get peekaboo looks at Pico-- to the pocket garden with charming whale sculptures placed amongst the greenery to the comfy and spacious rooms, it was a joy to stay here. The afternoon appearance of traditional baked goods and the always available tea and coffee were much appreciated. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Antonio is a delightful and interesting man and his artist's eye is evident in the layout, the color, and the overall ambience of this B & B. As a special treat one morning he even showed me around his expansive subterranean workshop where the shelves are full of his tile work, his paintings and other artistic endeavors.

Room Tip: I don't think you could get a bad room here. We had one on the ground floor and that even had a...

Everything was perfect.

Wonderful location near the harbour, and the city center.
Excellent views of Pico Island (and Pico Mountain as well).
All the house excellent, from the fruits and the small cakes in the lobby, to the coffee and tea available 24/24.
The rooms are large and Very good.
I've rented a car, the parking was really easy.

Thanks Antonio

A lovely place to stay, you wont be disappointed. Everything about Casa Antonio was perfect; from it's quirky fairytale appearance to its well equipped bathroom with wonderful supply of products (combs, shoe shine kit, mini toothbrushes, disposable razors, etc) better equipped that the 5 star hotel we moved on to, as was the air-conditioning! The air-conditioning was the best we had experience in the Azores.

The beds were comfy and the buffet breakfast delicious. Tea and coffee and little cakes/fruit were available at all times. On our last morning we had to leave before the alloted breakfast time, but, to our surprise, a table was set for us with the usual full choice of fayre.

The small garden was a riot of flowers, and tubs of flowers were all around looking very pretty.

If we were to travel to the Azores again we would have no hesitation in booking Casa Antonio. Thank you to everyone who made our stay a pleasure.

Antonio's is a short trundle from the ferry terminal. Antonio is an artist. The hotel he has designed and built is a work of art itself, stylish and immaculate. The balcony from our room had a wonderful view over the little town of Velas and the neighbouring island of Pico (also Portugal's highest mountain). There was a powerful shower attachment on the bath. We could get wifi in the reception area but not in our room. We slept well although there was some noise from the church bells and the demented babbling of the cagarros. Also this is a working port so there is some port noise in the morning. There was an excellent breakfast buffet selection, and Antonio makes his exquisite complimentary pastries available throughout the day. He does not offer evening meals although the adjacent Naval club is good. When I'm next in the Azores, I will be sure to include Antonio's in my travel plans.

This B&B was spotlessly clean, very charming and in a great location overlooking the harbour. Our room was small but more than adequate, and we had a lovely view of Pico. The small garden was covered in flowers and very pretty, breakfast was simple but great, and the little cakes in the hall on arrival back from a hot and sweaty hike were very tasty! Beds were really comfortable. The owners were discretely around when necessary. You're a stone's throw from everything in Velas. The town square, the Yacht Club restaurant (heaven), and the relatively new little harbour where you can listen at dusk to the unearthly squeals of the seabirds.

Stayed two nights with my sister and we both loved it. A safe clean cosy and confortable place to stay. Just by the port but we could only hear the birds sing! Right on center of the village close to the tourist office. Beautiful varied breakfast with lots of fresh breads. I was very impressed by the hosts who can go the extra mile to make people welcome. After arriving at the next destination I notice my jumper was left at the hotel. When contacting them they quickly offered for it to be put on the next ferry and as promised it arrived. I have no esitation in rercommending this place to anyone as I plan to return when possible.

Beautifully styled, comfortable beds, helpful host, excellent breakfast. The location is excellent, in the lower part of the pretty village within walking distance of shops and bars and harbour. They just need to get the wifi extended to the bedrooms and its perfect!

Room Tip: If you are planning to sleep in over breakfast you probably don't want a room beside the breakfa...
