the walk around the Caldeira although long, is well worth it for beautiful photo opportunities. you get beautiful views of the Island, and beautiful views of the fields lined with blue hydrangeas. absolutely stunning.

“Good view - if you're lucky”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

I was interested to see the Caldeira, I didn't know my calderas from my craters before I went. Access to the viewing point is through a short tunnel and we were advised to be quick going through it as the view can disappear as fast as it comes. You are very likely to be up in the clouds there. I only mark it average as once you've seen and photographed it it's time to go down again - unless of course you are a walker with your own transport, then there is a trail round it's perimeter which would be lovely to do on a good day.

“See the whole island from the highest point”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

Walking the entire length of the coast road is not a sensible option; however you can see the whole island in one day, on foot, by driving to the top of the caldera and walking the 8km circumference. It’s not an easy level stroll, rather one that involves walking up and down hundreds of earthwork staircases. The ever changing views are always spectacular and make the walk an absolute must.

“Great view, magnificent hydrangeas bushes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

If you are lucky to get a clear view, you will not be disappointed by the trip to the top. There is a great walk around the rim, going down on the other side of the island - make arrangements with a cab for a pick up!

“The thing to do in Faial”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

Impressive and pleasant trek, around the caldera. You walk at 1000m high, at the top of the island. On one side the vertical cliff looking down the green caldera, on the other during the 2 to 2,5 hours you need to walk around, you see the whole island, the ocean and Pico, Sao Jorge and Graciosa. It is not a difficult trek, but charming
