“New Experience”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

A magical experience. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Full menu offering a good choice. We did not know it was a hot lava stone restaurant but thoroughly enjoyed the experience of cooking our fish and meat which proved to be excellent entertainment. Highly recommend!

“A change of pace”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We enjoyed our dinner at this unusual restaurant that affords diners an opportunity to cook their own food on hot stones. Our number one tip is to NOT overcook your food. It was a nice change of pace, even if a little bit on the expensive side. We would highly recommend advance reservations as this place is extremely busy. We found the service to be very good with fresh tasting meats and seafood. We decided that the decor could be best characterized as "industrial maritime."

“Different style! Great for a group”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

This isnt the first time I've been to Canto De Doca and if I ever come back to Horta - I will go again! The staff are friendly, the restaurant has a great atmosphere when they're busy (very often!!) and the food is simple but tasty. Cooking on your own stone is fun and different! Our group went twice in 4 days and had a great time. Good price :) Make a reservation!

“I'm no cook”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Interesting idea, except if you're not good at cooking. I either left the thing on too long or took it off too quick. I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing do the work for me (as that's what I'm paying for). Also, not sure how this works with health codes -- serving raw pork, chicken, fish, and seafood on top of each other can't be right. Probably another reason why I overcooked things. However, It's a very popular place with the locals, and it's a pretty cool spot.

“Hot rock cooking”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

This has a twist on grilled food. Very thin slices of meat are served on a plate, you are then brought a red hot slab of stone on to which you put your meat and cook it in front of you. Then eat it with a selection of dips, salad and chips. It makes a nice change but prices are kind of high to say you are effectively cooking your own dinner!
