Interesting was our stop at Capelinhos Volcano and Intrepretation Center, site of the 1957-1958 volcanic eruption that lasted 13 months and the triple junction (three plates): North American, Eurasian and African plates . Still today, there is not much vegetation in the immediate area, only the grey volcanic soil. This is a complete contrast to the abundant flora and fauna in Horta. Left above ground is the lighthouse. The discovery is when you enter underground to the museum/scientific center. Especially enjoyed the 3D presentation. One of the highlights of our tour of the Azores.
